FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team will return to The Rickel inside the University Recreation Center to host two straight Big 12 matches as the Horned Frogs first welcome Kansas State on Wednesday, Oct. 4 for an 8 p.m., showdown.
The match between the Frogs (8-6, 0-3 Big 12) and the Wildcats (8-8, 1-2 Big 12) will air live on ESPNU with Melissa Lee and Bailey Webster on the call.
Clear Bag Policy
Only the following items will be permitted upon entrance into TCU athletics facilities:
-Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and not exceeding 14 inches by 14 inches
-One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
-One unopened bottle of water
-Small clutch bags with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the venue with one of the clear plastic bags
-The Small clutch bags must be approximately the size of a hand
-Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at stadium/arena gates
-Backpacks, diaper bags and other similar bags will not be allowed
Tickets
Tickets for the action on Wednesday will be available for purchase at the TCU Ticket Office located inside the Rec Center. Adult tickets will be priced at $10 and youth tickets available for $5. For more ticket information, please call the ticket office at 817-257-FROG.
Promotions
Popcorn will be available for $1 for all fans and TCU students can enter a raffle for a chance to win a sideline pass to the TCU vs. West Virginia football game on Saturday, Oct. 7.
TCU Quick Hits
-This season marks the third under the helm of alumni and Director of Volleyball Jill (Pape) Kramer
-Kramer (1996-99) was the first scholarship volleyball player on the inaugural team in 1996 and still holds the single-season and career school records in kills and total attacks
-Kramer has led TCU to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA tournament and has totaled over 100 career wins in her coaching career
-TCU is now 8-6 on the season and looking for its first Big 12 win of the season as they welcome Kansas State for the first of two straight home matches
-In the first RPI of the season, TCU checks in at No. 56 with the 20th best schedule in the country
-The Horned Frogs are a young team with eight of the current nine true or redshirt freshmen having seen action this season
-True freshmen Dani Dennison, Sarah Swanson and Allye Beth Deaton have appeared in every match
-Ashleigh Martin has started a `Marty Party' this year as the junior leads the team with 3.08 kills per set and double-digit kills in eight of the last 11 matches
-Anna Walsh is becoming one of the most efficient hitters in the Big 12 as the junior hit above .300 in seven of the last eight matches and nine matches this season
-Walsh has put down double-digit kills in eight matches this season and leads the team in Big 12 only match with 3.50 kills per set and .391 hitting clip
-The junior is also being defensive at the net and is ranked fourth in Big 12 only match with 1.20 blocks per set after recording a season-high 8.0 block at West Virginia
-Guiding the offense is two experienced setters in seniors Lamprini Konstantindou and Kaylee Smith who are dishing out 6.22 and 4.98 assists per set, respectively
-Dennison has been the anchor in the back row and is ranked third in the Big 12 with 4.82 digs per set after leading the league through the first two weekends of action
-Dennison has picked up double-digit digs in 13 of the 14 matches played this season and 20+ in four
-The highest ranked recruit to ever enroll at TCU in Abigail Buckingham has slowly made her way onto the court and is good for 2.62 kills per set when she sees action
-Deaton has been a steady contributor for TCU this season as the freshman is putting down 2.81 kills per set with a .254 hitting clip
Scouting the Opponent: Kansas State
-Kansas State only has one win in Big 12 play so far this season with a 3-2 victory over Oklahoma to open conference action
-Since then, the Wildcats have lost two straight matches with losses to then-No. 12 Kansas (3-2) and No. 5 Texas (3-0)
-The team sits right at .500 on the season with an 8-8 mark as Kansas State went 7-6 in nonconference action
-Kylee Zumach leads the Wildcats with 3.08 kills per set to go along with a .230 hitting clip and 1.40 digs per set
-Bryna Vogel (2.50 k/s) and Alyssa Schultejans (2.45 k/s) are also contributing offensively with Vogel recording a .312 hitting clip
-The setting duties are currently being split between Sarah Dixon and Brooke Smith who are dishing out 7.19 and 4.41 assists per set, respectively
-Smith is also leading the way from the service line with a team-high 18 service aces and 0.35 service aces per set
-The back row is being anchored by Reilly Killeen who is picking up 3.06 digs per set
Recap: At Kansas
-The TCU volleyball team battled hard but could not overcome a strong No. 11 Kansas offensive presence as the Jayhawks took the 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-21) victory on Saturday afternoon in Lawrence, Kan.
-The Horned Frogs went toe-to-toe with the ranked Jayhawks in the opening set as the teams tied on 15 occasions but a small run near the end proved to be the difference as Kansas took the set 25-22
-The battle continued into the second set but a kill from Kelsie Payne sparked an 8-1 run as the Jayhawks never looked back as they took the final two sets to get the sweep
-Anna Walsh led the team in kills with 12 in the match, while Allye Beth Deaton put down 10 kills and Abigail Buckingham recorded nine kills
-Dani Dennison anchored the back row with 10 digs, while Ashleigh Martin picked up nine digs.
