FORT WORTH – The No. 2 TCU Women's Rifle team opens the home portion of its schedule Saturday morning when it hosts No. 13 Nevada at the TCU Rifle Range. The first relay is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m.
The Horned Frogs have come out of the gates on fire. For the first time in program history, the group has fired four consecutive aggregate scores of 4,700 or better. TCU, West Virginia and Air Force are the only programs to surpass that 4,700 plateau this season, while the Horned Frogs and the Mountaineers are the lone programs to have done it in every match this season.
Three Frogs, Rachel Garner (594), Sally Li (592) and Mindy Miles (597) are averaging over 590 in air rifle this season, while two others (Barrett Ray and Nichole Hankey) are right behind the trio with averages of 589.
In smallbore, TCU has had five shooters (Garner, Ariana Grabowski, Li, Casey Lutz and Miles) post season averages of 580 or better in smallbore. Grabowski paces the quintet with a season average of 586.
Nevada enters the match with a 5-3 record so far this season. Saturday's match will be its fourth away from home. The Wolfpack fired a season-high 4,661 team score in its first match of the campaign. Sophomore Mitchell Van Patten leads the team in both disciplines. He's fired a 591 or better in air rifle in four of six matches and a 580 or higher in smallbore in five matches. As a team, Nevada is averaging a score of 4,649.
