Men's Golf Opens at Pebble Beach

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU men's golf program opens the 2015-16 season on Friday, traveling to Pebble Beach to participate in the prestigious 54-hole Carmel Cup.

Every team in the field is either ranked or receiving votes in the Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll, including the Horned Frogs -- who were second among those receiving votes in the poll. No. 11 Vanderbilt and No. 12 Georgia lead the pack of four ranked teams in the field.
Historic Pebble Beach, the site of six major championships, most recently hosted the U.S. Open in 2010. The championship will return in 2019 to the course that has seen such major champions as Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Tom Kite and Tom Watson.
The Horned Frogs return three of the five golfers that represented TCU in the 2015 NCAA Championships including senior Paul Barjon, junior Chelso Barrett and junior Giulio Castagnara. The trio helped TCU secure a top 10 finish at the 2015 NCAA Championships. Barrett finished second on the team in stroke average a year ago.
Six golfers will represent the Horned Frogs in California, including Barrett, Castagnara and Barjon. The trio of returners that participated in the NCAA Championships a year ago will be joined by senior Sarosh Adi and a pair of newcomers in freshman Turner MacLean and freshman Pierre Mazier.
Adi makes his return to the TCU lineup for the first time since 2013-14 where he participated in 11 of 12 events for the Horned Frogs and posted a 75.40 stroke average.
The appearance in the Carmel Cup represents one of three fall tournaments that the Horned Frogs will be making consecutive appearances in this year. It is the third appearance at the Carmel Cup in program history, having placed in the top three in both previous trips to the event.
Last season at the Carmel Cup, Andrew Presley fired a final-round 69 to help lead the TCU men's golf team to a third-place finish at the event. Presley was making his TCU debut after spending the previous three seasons at LSU. Barrett returns to the event after finishing 15th last year in the event. The Horned Frogs won the event in 2012 with Julien Brun taking home individual honors. It was the fourth of nine career tournament top honors for Brun during his TCU career.
