FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU equestrian program has shined academically the last couple of years. GoFrogs.com takes a closer look at the program's success inside the classroom.
In the past two years alone, TCU has not only combined to have eight student-athletes earn NCEA Academic First Team honors, but also had 25 awarded to the prestigious NCEA Academic Honor Roll. In the Big 12, the Frogs have had 12 student-athletes earn First-Team Academic All-Big 12 recognition since joining the league.
Last season, now senior Alexi Child was named the 2014 Big 12 Equestrian Scholar-Athlete of the Year after recording a 4.00 GPA in movement science. By earning Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolades, Child, who was one of only three student-athletes in the entire conference to post a perfect 4.00 GPA in 2013-14, became the second-straight TCU student-athlete to claim the prestigious honor, joining former Frog great Haley Jacobi who earned co-honors in 2012-13. The Frogs are the first program in the league to accomplish that feat, while Child had a perfect GPA for a second-straight season. In 2012-13, Child was one of five student-athletes in the conference to post a 4.00 grade point average.
With that type of success in place, there is no doubt the Frogs will continue their excellence in the classroom this school year. Next week, GoFrogs.com will take a look at the Horned Frogs' success with their horses.
