
TCU Heads to UNC Greensboro

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team will take its five-match winning streak to UNC Greensboro, as the Horned Frogs are set to participate in the Spartan Spiketacular on Sept. 20-21 in the Fleming Gym.
TCU will play North Carolina Central on Friday at 3 p.m., before playing George Mason on Saturday at 10 a.m., and then concluding the tournament with host UNC Greensboro at 6 p.m.
The Frogs are coming off a stellar week, where the team posted five wins at home. TCU first swept North Texas Wednesday night before taking all four matches in the TCU Nike/Molten Invitational against Stephen F. Austin (3-1), Houston (3-1), Grambling State (3-0) and Ole Miss (3-2).
Yvonne Igodan and Stephanie Holland were named Co-MVPs of the invitational, while Ashley Smith was named to the all-tournament team. Igodan led TCU with 53 kills and 3.12 kills per set last week, including 20 kills in the last match against Ole Miss and a .704 hitting percentage. Holland and Smith each finished with 43 kills a piece last week, while Holland also recorded 15 blocks.
TCU will be facing North Carolina Central and UNC Greensboro for the first time in program history, while the Frogs hold a 2-0 advantage over George Mason in the series.

BREAKING DOWN THE OPPONENT - NCCU
-The 2013 season has been a struggle for North Carolina Central as the Eagles are 0-13 overall and have won just one set in those matches.
-NCCU dropped a home contest to East Carolina in three sets in its most recent outing.
-Da'Sha Brown leads the way offensively with 95 kills, while Kalin Russell has 88 kills.
-Kelsey Murphy owns a squad-high 87 digs, while Brown has also recorded 70 digs.
-North Carolina Central is hitting .086 as a team and has recorded 8.30 kills per set, while also chipping in 445 digs at 11.12 digs per set.
-This is the first meeting between the teams.
BREAKING DOWN THE OPPONENT - GEORGE MASON
-George Mason enters this weekend with a 3-8 overall record with victories against UMBC, Coppin State and New Hampshire.
-Lana Zonjic leads the Patriot offense with a team-best 108 kills, 3.48 per set and five service aces.
-Bernetta Moore paces the back row having tallied 202 digs and 4.70 per set.
-GMU has exceled at blocking thus far this season, ranking eighth in the nation with 2.86 blocks per set.
-Lolade Owokoniran is the Patriots' individual leader in the statistic with 63 total blocks and an average of 1.47 per set.
-This is the 3rd meeting between the two teams as TCU leads the series 2-0.

BREAKING DOWN THE OPPONENT - UNC GREENSBORO
-The Spartans lost two out of three matches last weekend at the University of Georgia's Benson's Invitational, defeating North Florida in four sets and dropping decisions to Louisiana (3-0) and the host Bulldogs (3-1).
-Senior middle hitter Olivia Humphries was named to the all-tournament team after tallying 32 kills, 19 digs, three aces and four blocks.
-Humphries leads the Spartan offensive efforts with 108 kills, while ranking second on the team in hitting percentage at .215.
-Defensively, sophomore libero Katherine Santiago paces UNCG with 137 digs and 4.15 digs per set and is ranked eighth in the Southern Conference.
-Junior middle hitter Vicky Harley is the Blue and Gold's main force at the net, owning a team-high average of 0.91 blocks per set.
-This is the first meeting between the teams.
