GREETINGS FROM ARIZONA
This week's edition of Notes on a Scorecard comes to you from our Big 12 meetings in Phoenix, Ariz. I'm here with football coach Gary Patterson, men's basketball coach Trent Johnson, women's basketball coach Jeff Mittie and associate athletics director/senior woman administrator Kim Johnson. We're joining our counterparts throughout the league for productive discussions on all items relevant to our conference.

THANK YOU
I'm sure you've heard that we'll be losing one of our special Horned Frogs when associate athletics director for development Davis Babb heads to Clemson to be CEO of IPTAY, the Tigers' athletic fundraising organization. Returning to the Carolinas is a trip home for Davis and his family. The TCU and Fort Worth communities owe Davis a great amount of gratitude. From the time he arrived on campus in 1998, he's been our point person in the fundraising efforts which have upgraded our athletics facilities. Personally, Davis has been a great friend to me. TCU will always remain a very special place to Davis. The good news is that we still have him for another month, and he's hard at work on our Daniel-Meyer Coliseum project.
A NIGHT FOR OUR STUDENT-ATHLETES
We had a great time Monday evening at our All-Sports Banquet in the Champions Club in Amon G. Carter Stadium. Make sure to click here to see images of our award winners and the evening's festivities.
POSTSEASON BOUND
Congratulations to our women's golf, men's tennis and women's tennis programs on being selected for NCAA Regionals. All three sports will continue their seasons next weekend. We've had nine of our sports represented in postseason play by either teams or individuals this season. We'll also be adding to that total before the spring is over.
ONTO THE NFL
Our football program continues to excel when it comes to graduating its student-athletes and providing opportunities to play at the next level. We send our congratulations to Josh Boyce (New England Patriots) and Stansly Maponga (Atlanta Falcons) on being selected in last week's draft and wish them the best on their upcoming NFL careers.
SPECIAL ONLINE AUCTION ITEMS
We'd like to bring your attention to some special items we just made available through our online auctions by clicking . We have three autographed wristbands by head baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle. During our recent home series with Baylor, these wristbands were worn by players and coaches as a tribute to the victims affected by the explosions in West, Texas. Ninety percent of the money raised from these items will be donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to help the people affected by the recent events in West.
FACILITY UPDATE
All of the sand and gravel have been installed for the new field at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Mid-May is still the anticipated time frame for grass. Any delay in planting grass is due to waiting for enough hot weather for the roots on the harvested grass to start growing. Over at the Rec Center, we're excited about our new graphics being installed at the pool for our swimming and diving program.
ON THE DOCKET
Our track and field program makes the short trek down I-35 to Waco for the Big 12 Championships. With a couple of our student-athletes currently ranked first in the conference in their events, we have the possibility of a few Big 12 titles this weekend. If you're one of our many Horned Frogs in Southern California, our baseball team begins a three-game series at USC on Thursday night. First pitch is 8 p.m. CT Thursday and Friday with a 2 p.m. CT start on Saturday.
MEET THE STAFF
For nearly six years now, Stephanie Key is one of the anchors of our NCAA Compliance office. Among the myriad of duties in her role as an administrative assistant, Stephanie is in constant communication with our student-athletes while organizing regular compliance meetings with our coaches and their teams. Stephanie also helps process the multitude of requests we receive for donated items and promotional appearances. A native of Mansfield, Texas, Stephanie is the proud mother of three boys and one daughter. Like her twin sons, she's currently a student at TCU. Stephanie will graduate in December with a degree in general studies. She'll then begin work on a master's in education.
WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
TCU Lettermen's Association Hall of Fame member Carl Warwick was an All-American and two-time All-Southwest Conference outfielder for the Horned Frogs. He helped lead TCU to the 1956 SWC title and the school's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Carl made his major league debut in 1961 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and appeared in the 1964 World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals, tying a World Series record with three pinch hits. He batted .750 overall with a walk and RBI as the Cardinals won the series. Carl just retired from his real estate business and lives in Houston with his wife Nancy. He remains active with both Major League Baseball Alumni and TCU Lettermen's Association events.
SPANNING THE GLOBE
In this week's edition of TCU supporters from all points worldwide flashing the Horned Frog sign and apparel, we see a group of four TCU graduates and Alphi Chi Omega sisters at Estes Park in Colorado. Left to right: Emily (Grimmer) Shepard '08, Deanna Damon '08, Amanda Ziehme '08 and Kim Freeman '09. Please continue to send me (delconte@tcu.edu) your images. These are fun to share.
NAME THE MOVIE QUOTE
Last Week's Answer: Kevin Costner has made several great baseball movies. One of them was For Love of the Game. As Detroit Tigers' pitcher Billy Chapel, Costner was working on a perfect game against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. The legendary Vin Scully, providing the play-by-play call in the movie, said, "The cathedral that is Yankee Stadium belongs to a Chapel."
This Week's Quote: "The Dukes are going to corner the entire frozen orange juice market!" Make sure to check back next week for the answer.
COMPLIANCE CORNER
Starting one week prior to the start of final exams for the semester, sports that are not in season are prohibited from conducting countable athletically-related activity. Countable activities include practice, team meetings, required weight training and conditioning and any workout at the direction of a coaching staff member. It is important to note student-athletes may continue to engage in voluntary activity during this period as long as a coaching staff member does not observe the activity and/or the activity is not reported back to a coaching staff member in any way.
