
TCU Track & Field Ready For Razorback Invitational

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU track and field program will return to action this weekend for the two-day Razorback Invitational at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
Action begins Friday at noon with the women's pentathlon and men's heptathlon, while the running preliminaries begin with the 60 meters at 6 p.m. The field events will start with the women's pole vault at 3 p.m.
The women's field will include seven teams ranked in the top-25 of the latest USTFCCCA rankings, starting with No. 2 LSU and followed by No. 3 Arkansas, No. 9 Florida State, No. 12 Arizona, No. 16 Baylor, No. 19 Oklahoma and No. 24 Stanford.
On the men's side, the field will feature eight of the top-20 teams ranked in the Jan. 24 release of the national poll. TCU's men will get the chance to run with No. 1 Arkansas, No. 3 LSU, No. 4 Florida State, No. 5 Texas, No. 7 Stanford, No. 10 Arizona, No. 13 Oklahoma and No. 17 Iowa.

LAST TIME OUT: TEXAS 10-TEAM INVITATIONAL (JAN. 14)
TCU junior Charles Silmon posted a personal-best time in the men's 60 meters to pace the Horned Frogs Saturday at the 2012 Texas 10-Team Invitational at Texas A&M on Jan. 14. Silmon rumbled down the 60-meter stretch with a lifetime-best time of 6.66 to take the event. His clocking moved the Waco, Texas native into seventh all-time in the TCU top-10 list, surpassing his previous personal-best from 2010 and Syan Williams' 1998 time of 6.67.
From the air, TCU took the top two spots in the women's long jump. Senior Whitney Gipson set a new meet record with a top leap of 20-7 3/4 feet to claim the event. Also from the infield, TCU dominated the men's shot put, taking the top four spots. Junior Cameron Tabor won his second-straight event to begin the season, tossing the rock 53-11 ¼ feet.
GIPSON AND SILMON HONORED BY MOUNTAIN WEST
TCU senior long jumper Whitney Gipson and junior sprinter Charles Silmon were selected as the Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for their performances at the Texas 10-Team Invitational at Texas A&M. Gipson earned first-place honors in the women's long jump, setting a new meet record with a leap of 20-7 3/4. Silmon won the men's 60-meter dash, posting a career-best time of 6.66 seconds. That mark is the fourth fastest 60-meter time in Mountain West history.
TCU IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Frogs have registered some of the best times and marks in the nation through the first three meets this season. Junior Charles Silmon posted a time in the 60 meters (6.66) that stands as the No. 7 clocking in the country. On the women's side, sophomore Briyanni Thomas is listed at No. 21 in the 800 meters, while newcomer Ashley Collins can boast the No. 24 clocking in the 400 meters.
Senior Whitney Gipson currently leads the nation in the women's long jump with a top leap of 20-7 ¾ feet, while freshman long jumper Lorraine Ugen has the No. 8 mark in the nation at 20-2.5 feet. TCU's men's and women's 4x400 relay teams are both in the top-25, coming in at No. 19 and No. 25, respectively.
STATIONED IN COLLEGE STATION
Three of TCU's four regular season indoor meets are scheduled to take place at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station. The Frogs opened the indoor slate with the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational on Dec.10 and competed in the Texas 10-Team Invitational on Jan. 14. TCU will wrap-up the indoor regular season schedule at the Texas A&M Invitational on Feb. 11.
