FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU received word on Wednesday that Haley Jacobi and Kaitlin Perry will represent the Horned Frogs at the Third Annual Collegiate Equitation Challenge in Wellington, Fla.
Jacobi, a junior from Scottsdale, Ariz., will compete in Equitation over Fences, while Perry, a freshman from California, was selected to be the demo rider in Equitation on the Flat.
"I'm so excited to have the opportunity to bring two outstanding young ladies to this year's Winter Equestrian Festival Collegiate Challenge," said head coach Logan Fiorentino. "Haley has really shown that she is a top competitor in Collegiate Equestrian and that she can compete with the best from other teams. I have every confidence that she will represent TCU as well as her teammates extremely well."
"I look forward to watching Kaitlin ride the demonstration pattern for the inaugural WEF Flat Challenge. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience as we look forward to the NCEA Championship in April," said Fiorentino. "Kaitlin worked very hard in the fall to adjust to this format and her hard work has really started to pay off."
The tournament will be run in the NCEA head to head, bracketed format with sixteen top collegiate riders from all over the country. Riders will compete over an equitation course with heights up to 3 feet, 6 inches. Competition will start at 2 p.m. with all sixteen riders in the preliminary round. The eight winners will qualify for the finals in the evening and the remaining eight will compete in a consolation bracket immediately following the preliminary round. The horses will be on loan from local professionals and unfamiliar to the riders. The winner of the consolation bracket will receive a trophy donated by Pierre and Martha Jolicoeur and the Champion will be presented a trophy sponsored by the South Florida Hunter Jumper Association. The competition will also expand this year to include a four rider Equitation on the Flat tournament that will be run during the finals.
TCU will resume competition as a team against Texas A&M at the Fort Worth Stock Show on Friday, Feb. 3. Competition is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. inside the John Justin Arena.
