
Frogs Set For Road Test A SMU Doubletree Invite

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team will hit the road for the first time this season when they head across the Metroplex to take part in the SMU Doubletree Invite. The tournament will feature the host school, SMU, Alabama and Lamar. The Horned Frogs first match is set for Friday against SMU at 7 p.m.

THE TOURNAMENT FIELD
TCU NOTABLES
TCU took home the TCU Invitational title after winning all three matches.
The Horned Frogs improved to 7-3 in home openers under Coach Lewis.
Jordan Raines was named Tournament MVP, while Megan Munce and Kristen Hester earned all-tournament honors.
Megan Munce tallied her 100th career service ace against Texas Tech.
Stephanie Holland paced the team with 14 kills against Texas Tech in her first collegiate game.
Sarah Joeckel notched her first career 20-dig match with 21 against the Red Raiders.
SMU NOTABLES
The Mustangs went 1-2 in a tournament hosted by Oklahoma, dropping matches to the 16th-ranked Sooners and Missouri State before defeating Oral Roberts.
Libero Sidney Stewart was named to the all-tournament squad after averaging 6.11 digs per set over the weekend.
Jessica Oliver and Dana Powell paced the team offensively with an average of 3.56 kills per set.
ALABAMA NOTABLES
The Crimson Tide rolled to the Hampton Inn Bama Beach Tournament title defeating Alabama State, Austin Peay and Texas State.
Kayla Fitterer was named the tournament MVP, while Leigh Moyer and Cortney Warren were named to the all-tournament squad.
Alabama dropped a 3-2 decision at Samford on Tuesday night.
LAMAR NOTABLES
Lamar went 1-2 in a home tournament, defeating Texas Southern and losing to North Texas and Houston Baptist.
Sierra Whittaker was the all-tournament representative for the Cardinals, averaging a team-high 3.30 kills per set.
Christina Hobb is a threat at the net, averaging 1.30 blocks per set after the first weekend of play.
SERIES HISTORY
The Horned Frogs and the Mustangs will be meeting for the 15th time in school history.
SMU holds an 11-3 advantage in the all-time series, including a 6-1 series lead in matches played in Dallas.
The Mustangs have won four straight in the series, including wins in each of the last two seasons.
TCU's lone win in Dallas came on Oct. 19, 1996 and its last victory came on Sept. 22, 2000.
The Horned Frogs have never faced Alabama on the volleyball court.
The Frogs' meeting with Lamar will be the fifth in the series.
The series is tied at 2-2, including a 1-1 at neutral sites.
TCU won the last meeting in Fort Worth on Sept. 7, 2007.
REACHING A MILESTONE
In Saturday's match against Alabama, head coach Prentice Lewis will coach her 300th game at TCU.
She has held the distinction as the all-time winningest coach in school history since Sept. 3, 2005 when she tallied career win No. 58 against Seton Hall.
In her 10th season, Lewis has 175 career victories, including five 20-win seasons and six winning campaigns.
She guided the Frogs to the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2009.
MANY HAPPY RETURNS
After sitting out the majority of the 2010 campaign, redshirt juniors Megan Munce and Sarah Joeckel made their return to the court on Friday night.
Their presence immediately paid dividends as Munce tallied a double-double (34 assists/11 digs) and Joeckel picked up her first career 20-dig match with 21 in the victory over Texas Tech.
On the weekend, Munce averaged 9.00 assists per game and helped lead the Frogs to a .292 attack percentage, a mark that leads the league.
Munce also moved into eighth all-time on the career charts when she served up three aces over the course of the weekend, giving her 101 in her career.
Joeckel ranks second in the league with her average of 4.60 digs per set.
PARTY AT THE REC
Frog fans packed the Rec over the weekend as TCU posted two of the top three attendance marks in school history.
Friday's season-opener against Texas Tech saw 1,706 fans pack the stands, which at the time was the second-largest crowd in school history.
Saturday's match against Connecticut demolished the old record of 1,875 fans when 2,166 Horned Frog faithful crowded into the Rec Center.
Over the course of the three matches, the Frogs averaged 1,755 fans.
SENIOR LEADERSHIP
Kristen Hester had an outstanding weekend that saw her earn all-tournament honors.
The senior racked up a team-high 33 kills (an average of 3.67 per set) and hit at a blistering .577 clip.
Additionally, Hester fired off four sevice aces and posted four blocks, three of which were of the solo variety.
The senior from Fort Worth has played in 68 straight matches dating back to her sophomore season.
SENIOR LEADERSHIP, TAKE 2
Additionally, Jordan Raines had an outstanding weekend en route to earning tournament MVP honors.
She racked up 25 kills in the three games, an average of 2.78 per set.
Her 22 digs in the three matches were third most and averaged out to 2.44 per set.
