SHANGHAI - TCU senior Edgar Crespo will represent his home country of Panama this week at the 14th FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China.
The Panama City, Panama, native will face some of the world's best beginning July 24 when he suits up in the 100-breaststroke. Crespo is scheduled to swim the 50-breast July 26, the 200-breast July 28 and the 100-butterfly July 29.
Crespo is no stranger to the Far East having competed at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. At that event, Crespo notched a 1:03.72 long-course meters time, which was best in his heat but failed to qualify for the semifinals.
The meet will be Crespo's second FINA World Championships. He also competed at the 2009 Championships in Rome, where he swam the 50-, 100- and 200-breast.
Crespo is TCU's school-record holder in the 100-breast and 200-breast with short-course yards times of 53.32 and 1:57.91, respectively. Crespo, the 2010 Mountain West Conference champion in the 100-breast, competed in the 100-breast at the 2010 and 2011 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championship and in 200-breast in 2011.
