HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES
We are very proud of this year's TCU Lettermen's Association Hall of Fame class of track and field greats Rebecca Allison, Johnny Collins and Bill Shelton Curtis, football's Tracy Simien and Shawn Worthen and women's tennis standout Tory Plunkett. Formal induction ceremonies will take place Sept. 15, two days before our Sept. 17 football home opener. If you happen to know these folks or come across them, please make sure to extend your congratulations.
NEW ROLES
Due to the recent success in our capital campaign to improve facilities, we are pleased to announce that John Denton, as loyal a Horned Frog as there ever was, has been promoted to director of major gifts to continue the momentum in our fundraising efforts. John will work even more closely with associate athletics director Davis Babb on facilities and scholarships. Before anyone worries, John will still be free on football weekends to take his familiar seat alongside Brian Estridge on our award-winning radio broadcasts.
LETTERMEN'S ASSOCIATION TOPS 1,000 MEMBERS
As far as things that make me proud, the support we receive from our lettermen is right at the top. To have over 1,000 former student-athletes contributing a record $110,000 in dues is phenomenal for our Lettermen's Association. Greg Blackwell does an incredible job in keeping our former student-athletes connected to the program. When it comes to lettermen involvement, TCU is a model for other universities to follow. Having 1,000 members giving back to their alma mater speaks volumes on the pride felt in being a Horned Frog!
HOTTEST SCHOOL IN TEXAS
We talk a lot about momentum at TCU, and our good friends at Fort Worth, Texas Magazine have captured it. Make sure to check out next month's edition. Here's a sneak peek of the cover:
CONGRATS
We've had some special recognitions and performances recently with current and past student-athletes. Jessica Young was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, while former women's golfer Valentine Derrey won her first professional tournament over the weekend on the LPGA Futures Tour.
POSTERS ARRIVE
Our 2011 football and soccer posters have arrived and are available in the ticket office lobby of the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Volleyball posters and our football trading cards will be in later this week. Just drop by anytime during the ticket office hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, to pick up whatever you need to properly decorate your office and home walls.
WEARING TCU IS FASHIONABLE
Over $20 million in retail TCU merchandise was sold worldwide over the last year, helping us net a record $1 million in licensing revenues. The purple was worn with pride not just in Fort Worth, but truly everywhere.
MEET THE FROGS
Several of you have asked about Meet The Frogs for this year. Please mark your calendar for Saturday, Aug. 20, as we'll hold the annual popular event from 12 noon to 2 p.m. in the comforts of the air-conditioned Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
LT IS BACK
LaDainian Tomlinson will be back on campus next week for his annual Camp LT. If you're free Tuesday at lunch, drop by the downtown Omni Hotel at 11:30 a.m. to hear LT as part of our TCU Athletics Speakers Series. Brian Estridge will emcee the event benefitting LT's Touching Lives Foundation. Tickets are $100. You can register online HERE.
COMPLIANCE CORNER
A booster or fan of TCU athletics may employ a student-athlete as long as it is at a normal rate of pay for that position and the student-athlete is paid for work actually performed, but you must have prior approval from our NCAA Compliance Office before doing so. A booster CANNOT use the name or picture of a student-athlete to directly or indirectly advertise, recommend or promote the sale or use of a commercial product or service. If you have any questions, please contact our NCAA Compliance Office at (817) 257-7525.
KEEP IN TOUCH
Please let us know if you ever have any questions or concerns regarding our program. This is also your program and we value your feedback. We welcome all calls and emails.
Go Frogs!
