FORT WORTH, Texas -- Consensus Draft Services has tabbed TCU linebackers Tank Carder and Tanner Brock as preseason All-Americans.
Carder is a first-team selection with Brock an honorable-mention choice.
A first-team All-American last season and the Rose Bowl's Defensive Most Valuable Player, Carder has also received first-team preseason All-America honors from Playboy, Phil Steele's College Football Preview, Sporting News and Athlon. He also appears on the Lott Trophy Watch List, while Dave Campbell's Texas Football named him the State's Best Defensive Player.
Brock, also a Phil Steele Preseason All-American, was ranked 95th in Yahoo! Sports/Rivals.com countdown of the top 100 players in college football.
Athlon lists Carder and Brock as the sixth-best linebacker unit in the nation.
A senior from Sweeny, Texas, Carder has been instrumental in TCU leading the nation in total defense each of the last three seasons. He posted 60 tackles last year, including 9 1/2 for loss. He totaled 3 1/2 sacks, five pass breakups and an interception.
In the 21-19 Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin, Carder broke up the Badgers' potential game-tying 2-point pass with exactly two minutes to play. He totaled six tackles in the contest, including three for loss with a sack.
Brock received third-team All-America honors last season and was a first-team All-Mountain West Conference selection after topping TCU with 106 tackles, 26 more than the next-closest Horned Frog (Colin Jones, 80). Brock was just the second TCU player (Daryl Washington, 109, 2009) to reach 100 stops in a season since 2004.
A junior from Copperas Cove, Texas, Brock was the MWC Defensive Player of the Week after recording a career-high 12 tackles and an interception with a 57-yard return in TCU's 47-7 win at Utah. He added nine stops in the Rose Bowl.
