FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU linebacker Tank Carder has been named a first-team preseason All-American by Sporting News.
Carder, a first-team All-American last year and the Rose Bowl's Defensive Most Valuable Player, has also received preseason All-America accolades from Playboy, Phil Steele's College Football Preview and Athlon. He also appears on the Lott Trophy Watch List.
TCU, in its final season in the Mountain West Conference before beginning Big East Conference play in 2012, saw the following individuals recognized by Sporting News as the MWC's best: Carder (Best Instincts), wide receiver Josh Boyce (Fastest Receiver), cornerback Greg McCoy (Best Athlete), wide receiver LaDarius Brown (Top Impact Frosh) and head coach Gary Patterson (Best Recruiter).
Representing TCU on Sporting News' All-MWC team were Boyce, Carder, linebacker Tanner Brock, defensive end Stansly Maponga, tailback Ed Wesley and defensive tackle D.J. Yendrey.
The Horned Frogs have four of the 11 players on the All-MWC defensive team. TCU has led the nation in total defense each of the last three seasons.
TCU, which returns 11 starters from last year's undefeated Rose Bowl championship team, is ranked 20th in Sporting News' preseason poll.
