
TCU Begins 2011 MWC Outdoor Championships

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Freshman Samantha Collins kicked off action in cold and soggy weather conditions at the 2011 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships Thursday.
Fighting through rain and temperatures dipping into the forties, The freshman from Mesa, Ariz., claimed fifth place overall in the women's heptathlon, totaling 4,506 points. Her top performance came in the 100-meter hurdles, while she also performed well in the 200-meter dash and long jump. San Diego State's Allison Reaser claimed the heptathlon title.
"I thought Samantha competed well for us today," TCU head coach Darryl Anderson said. "At the end of the day, she scored four points for our team in tough conditions. It was the first heptathlon of her college career and I'm happy with the results."
Competition will continue Friday with the women's hammer throw at 10 a.m. MT, followed by the men's hammer throw at noon. Running events on Friday are set to begin at approximately 1:30 p.m. MT with the women's steeplechase.
