
Frogs Set For 2011 MWC Outdoor Championships

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU track and field program will open postseason competition on Wednesday at the 2011 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships in Fort Collins, Colo.
The Horned Frogs will open action on Wednesday at the Jack Christiansen Track on the campus of Colorado State with sophomore Samantha Collins competing in the women's heptathlon. The event will conclude on Thursday.
Competition will begin Friday with the women's hammer throw at 10 a.m. MT, followed by the men's hammer throw at noon. Running events on Friday are set to begin at approximately 1:30 p.m. MT with the women's steeplechase.
In its last outing, TCU closed its regular season at the historic Penn Relays with junior Whitney Gipson snapping the meet and Franklin Field records in the women's long jump and sophomore Charles Silmon taking runner-up honors in the men's 100 meters. The men's 4x100 quartet of OJ Stoneham, Mark Barnes, Mychal Dungey and Silmon registered a third-place showing in the Championship of America final.

TOP MARKS IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE
Heading into the conference meet, TCU currently holds the top spot in 13 different events in the Mountain West Conference. Overall, the Horned Frogs lead the conference in the men's 100, 200, 400, 800, 4x100, 4x400 and triple jump. On the women's side, the Purple and White top the conference in the 100, 200, 400, 4x100, 4x400 and long jump.
TCU IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Frogs have several student-athletes ranked amongst the nation's best, according to TFRRS. Senior Jessica Young is currently the No. 7 woman in the country in the 100 meters (11.12w), No. 11 in the 200 meters (23.05) and No. 4 in the 400 meters (52.27).
Sophomore Charles Silmon is No. 10 in the men's 100 meters (10.19w) and No. 10 in the 200-meters after posting a time of 20.60 at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational. Senior Mychal Dungey ran his personal-best at the Michael Johnson Classic to be ranked No. 10 in the men's 400 meters (45.64). In the men's 800 meters, Jack O'Brien enters the weekend ranked No. 18 nationally.
The men's 4x100 squad of OJ Stoneham, Mark Barnes, Dungey and Silmon currently sits No. 12 in the NCAA, while the women's 4x400 group of Briyanni Thomas, Quinterra Charles, Teneshia Peart and Kristal Juarez is No. 15.
From the infield, women's long jumper Whitney Gipson ranks 10th in the NCAA this spring with a long leap of 20-11 ¼, while men's triple jumper Cameron Parker is listed at No. 18 with a distance of 51-9 1/4 from the Texas Relays.
