
Frogs Face Strong Field At Michael Johnson Classic Saturday

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU track and field program will continue the outdoor season Saturday at the Michael Johnson/Dr. Pepper Classic in Waco Texas. The one-day meet will take place at the Hart/Patterson Track & Field Complex on the campus of Baylor University.
The meet will begin with the javelin and hammer throw at 9:30 a.m. The morning running events will kick-off with the 100-meter hurdles at 11 a.m. There will be an afternoon running session that is slated to start with the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 5 p.m.
TCU will battle a strong 18-team field Saturday that includes host Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas, UT-Arlington, UT-Tyler, Oklahoma, Abilene Christian, TAMU-Commerce and South Plains College among other programs.

TCU IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Frogs have several student-athletes ranked amongst the nation's best, according to TFRRS. Senior Jessica Young is currently the No. 7 woman in the country in the 100 meters (11.12w) and fourth in the 400 meters (52.27). Young is also a member of the Frogs' top 4x100 relay squad that ranks No. 23 in the NCAA this spring, teaming up with Franchelle Hill, Veronica Jones and Whitney Gipson.
Sophomore Charles Silmon is No. 7 in the men's 100 meters (10.19w) and No. 8 in the 200-meters after posting a time of 20.60 last week at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational. Senior Mychal Dungey ran his personal-best at the Bobby Lane Invite to be ranked No. 26 in the men's 400 meters (46.59). In the men's 800 meters, Jack O'Brien and Sean Zurko enter this weekend ranked No. 12 and No. 24, respectively, nationally. The men's 4x100 currently sits No. 9 in the NCAA, while the women's 4x400 is currently No. 10.
From the infield, women's long jumper Whitney Gipson ranks fifth in the NCAA this spring with a long leap of 20-11 ¼, while men's triple jumper Cameron Parker is listed at No. 11 with a distance of 51-9 1/4 from Texas Relays. Sophomore Kelsey Samuels is currently the No. 30 women's shot putter in the country.
TOP MARKS IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE
One week into the outdoor season, TCU currently holds the top spot in 14 different events in the Mountain West Conference. Overall, the Horned Frogs lead the conference in the men's 100, 200, 400, 800, 110-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, 4x100, 4x400 and triple jump. On the women's side, the Purple and White top the conference in the 100, 400, 4x100, 4x400 and long jump.
