DALLAS -- Former TCU wide receiver Bart Johnson will be recognized Wednesday night with a scholar-athlete award by the National Football Foundation's Gridiron Club of Dallas.
The banquet will be held at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. TCU head coach Gary Patterson will be honored that same night with the club's Distinguished Texan Award.
After coming to TCU as a walk-on, Johnson earned a scholarship and became a four-year letterman. A second-team ESPN Academic All-American and a three-time Academic All-District selection, Johnson was the 2010 recipient of the TCU football program's G. Malcolm Louden Academic Achievement Award.
Johnson totaled 85 receptions in his career. His 23-yard touchdown catch in the Rose Bowl provided TCU's first points of the game. He later helped seal the 21-19 victory over Wisconsin by recovering an onside kick in the final two minutes.
A native of Brownwood, Texas, Johnson placed fourth on the Horned Frogs last season with 31 receptions. He totaled four touchdown catches, including a 26-yard toss from Jeremy Kerley in TCU's 47-7 win at Utah.
As a junior, Johnson tied for second on the Horned Frogs with a career-high 33 receptions.
Johnson received his TCU degree in marketing in December.
