FORT WORTH - The TCU Athletics Departments has named Tom Hoge and Sarah Scherer as its Athletes of the Week, it was announced Wednesday.
Hoge brought home individual medalist honors from the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on April 5, while Scherer won the gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle at the ISSF World Cup in Changwon, Korea, over the weekend.
The senior from Fargo, N.D., who entered the day with a two-stroke lead at 1-under par following Monday's opening two rounds, shot a final-round 74 to finish the event at +2. He held off Stanford's Andrew Yun (+3), who placed second following a final-round 69.
The victory marked Hoge's first since he won the 2008 Columbia Invitational during his sophomore season. He also became the first Horned Frog to capture an individual championship since sophomore teammate Daniel Jennevret won The Prestige at PGA West in the Fall 2009.
Scherer earned a spot in the 10-shot finals after shooting a 398 to tie for first with Poland's Agnieszka Nagay. The Fort Worth, Texas, native took the lead after the second final shot and held on to that lead for the remaining eight shots. Her final score of 501.5 topped Nagay by one full point.
The event was even more impressive for the sophomore as her score of 398 in the qualifier was Scherer's highest score fired in a World Cup event and her first time to qualify for the final round.
