COLLEGE STATION, Texas - TCU senior Jessica Young exploded out of the blocks to garner silver honors in the women's 60-meter dash and the women's 4x400 relay squad broke the school record in the final day of the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station, Texas.
"I thought we had an outstanding weekend," TCU head coach Darryl Anderson said. "Every girl that we brought here ended up being an All-American and we finished 13th as a team, finally moving ourselves into the top-20. We feel like this is going to help us a lot as we move forward with the program. We think outdoors we are going to be able to add some people to what we are doing and we feel like we can be a definite top-10 team outside. I'm excited about [Jessica] Young getting second in the 60 meters. After a year off, that is outstanding."
Overall, the Horned Frogs closed the meet in a tie with Southern Miss for 13th place to post their highest finish on the women's side at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. TCU finished the meet with a program-best output of 15 points. Oregon won the NCAA Championship with 67 points. Florida won the men's National Championship with 52 points.
Young captured All-America honors in the 60 meters by crossing the finish line in second-place with a time of 7.17 seconds, tying her school record set at the 2011 Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships. With her runner-up performance, the five-time All-America honoree posted the highest finish ever in the women's 60 meters for a female Frog at the NCAA Indoor Championships, surpassing her fourth-place finish in the event in 2009.
The women's 4x400 quartet consisting of Quinterra Charles, Kristal Juarez, Teneshia Peart and Young collected fifth place overall and All-America status with a time of 3:34.00. The clocking stands as the fastest in TCU history, replacing the 2009 team of Hayley Shade, Kishelle Paul, Jessica Clarke and Young that ran 3:34.63. The fifth-place finish is the second-highest finish posted by a women's 4x400 at the NCAA Indoor Championships in program history.
TCU will kickoff the outdoor season with the fifth annual TCU Invitational, March 18-19. Baylor, North Texas, Oklahoma, SMU, Texas State, Texas Tech and UT Arlington are scheduled to compete against the Frogs.
