
Young Shatters School Record at Tyson Invitational

FRIDAY'S RESULTS
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Horned Frog track and field program made their second appearance of the year at the Randal Tyson Track Center Friday, opening action at the 2011 Tyson Invitational.
Senior Jessica Young made her presence be known, smashing her own school record in the 60 meters, running an NCAA automatic and personal-best time of 7.18 seconds in the women's 60-meter semifinals. Her 7.18 seconds clocking ties for the fastest time in the country this season and sits 11th in the world. Young would later take second in the finals with a clocking of 7.22 seconds. The Columbia, S.C., product blasted away to take her preliminary heat at 7.24 seconds.
Junior Whitney Gipson and sophomore Kelsey Samuels headlined the women's field events for TCU. Gipson took home fifth place honors, third among collegians, in the women's long jump invitational, leaping 20 feet, 6.5 inches, while Samuels snapped her school record in the weight throw with a toss of 57 feet, 5 inches for finish sixth overall.
Sean Zurko, a senior from Las Vegas, improved on his season's totals in the 800 meters, placing fourth overall in the 800 meter invitational with a clocking of 1:50.04. Zurko's time moves into fourth in the Mountain West Conference. Junior Jack O'Brien followed in seventh place after winning the second heat at 1:51.54.
Other highlights on the first day of competition included Kristal Juarez opening the day by clocking a seasonal-best indoor time to place 19th overall in the women's 400 meters for the second-straight season.
TCU will continue action tomorrow with Day Two at the 2011 Tyson Invitational. The Frogs will begin competition at Noon with the women's shot put.
