FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU football coach Gary Patterson held his weekly news conference Tuesday in the Four Sevens Team Room. The Horned Frogs (6-2, 3-0) are at Wyoming (5-2, 2-0) Saturday.
Included below are excerpts from Patterson's meeting with the media.
On this week's game ...
"We've got four weeks left. Wyoming is a team that's really playing well. They have a young quarterback, and they're playing hard on defense. They got through a couple of close ballgames, had an off week and played a good ballgame against San Diego State."
On playing on the road ...
"It's week nine. I said at the beginning of the season that all our road games had the chance to be our toughest ballgames that we had to play this year. Up to this point, that is exactly the way it has been."
On the forecast of inclement weather this weekend ...
"Our kids know. When it comes to going to altitude, bad weather or cold, usually the teams that are losing talk about it. The teams that are winning don't. They key for us is to find a way to go win a ballgame against a good football team. It's tough to play at their place."
On not looking ahead to next week's game at Boise State ...
"This team we're about to play is undefeated in the conference. They have just as good a record as Boise State does in the conference. Next week's ballgame won't mean anything if we don't win this one. We've been down this road before."
On if his team is playing its best right now ...
"Defensively, we're playing our best. Offensively, we've scored a lot of points. At the BYU game, we played with a lot of emotion and a lot of energy. We didn't play very smart. I was proud of how hard they played on a short week."
On Wyoming quarterback Brett Smith and the Cowboys ...
"He's big and a hard runner. He's very competitive. He's young, but it doesn't look like the game really bothers him that much. They are senior-oriented. They have two big defensive ends who can really play on a defense that's been playing very hard. They have two big running backs who can run the read-option. They've made themselves better at wide receiver. It's the best offense I've seen there in three or four years."
On the play of TCU safety Jonathan Anderson ...
"If you put a freshman in Cowboys Stadium and he's never been in that venue before, he's going to act differently. He learned some things and made some tackles. He tackled very well, and he had the big interception. He learned some things about how to communicate and do things that he didn't think he had to do. For down the road, I don't think you can put a price on what it's going to be for him to keep moving forward and playing in more ballgames."
On competing for a conference title ...
"That's been our No. 1 goal since the very beginning. That's why our motto is `Do It Now.' Our whole thing wasn't to grow up or get ready for the Big 12. It was to do it now and be the team that we can be this year. Our goal is to try to win the conference title and as many ballgames as we can."
