Nuutinen Keys Final-Round TCU Surge

GOLF, Ill. -- Sanna Nuutinen's 69 led a TCU surge as the 28th-ranked Horned Frogs finished fourth after Tuesday's final round of the Windy City Collegiate Classic.
Nuutinen birdied four of her last 11 holes as she recorded the second-best round of her TCU career, surpassed only by a 68 in her collegiate debut at last year's Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
A sophomore from Helsinki, Finland, Nuutinen tied for fourth individually with an even-par 216, just two strokes behind co-medalists Isabelle Boineau of Arizona and Oklahoma State's Kelsey Vines.
Nuutinen, last year's Mountain West Freshman of the Year and an All-MW selection, recorded the best finish of her TCU career. Her previous top result was a seventh-place effort at the 2010 Dick McGuire Invitational.
A final-round 298 gave TCU a 54-hole total of 898, 16 strokes behind team champion and fourth-ranked Oklahoma State. The Horned Frogs finished ahead of three teams ranked higher: No. 1 Texas, No. 11 UC Davis and No. 12 Texas Tech.
TCU senior Rachel Raastad birdied her opening hole and the final two en route to a 75.
Fellow Horned Frog senior Brooke Beeler, playing in her home state of Illinois, tied for 29th with a 226. She had a 77 Tuesday.
Horned Frog freshmen Alexandra Bonetti and April McCoy recorded a final-round 77 and 78, respectively. McCoy had three birdies with Bonetti posting two.
After playing three consecutive weeks in tournaments, TCU will not return to action until Oct. 30 at the Alamo Invitational in San Antonio. At last year's event, the Horned Frogs won the team title with Beeler capturing the individual championship.
