GUADALAJARA, Mexico - TCU senior Edgar Crespo won the B-final in the 200-meter breaststroke of the Pan-American Games on Tuesday night for a ninth-place overall finish.
Crespo held off a late charge from Mexico's David Oliver, who was closing in front of 4,000 raucous hometown fans. Crespo touched the wall in 2:20.18, just ahead of Oliver's 2:20.54.
The Panama City, Panama, native improved on his time from the prelims, in which he clocked a 2:20.90 to narrowly miss out on the A-final. Crespo also finished fifth in the 100-meter breaststroke at the Pan-Am Games on Sunday.
Crespo holds the TCU records in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events. The Pan-American Games were Crespo's second major international competition in the last three months. He notched personal bests in the 50-meter breaststroke, 100-meter breaststroke and 200-meter breaststroke at the FINA World Swimming Championships in July.
