FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team held its annual postseason banquet Thursday night. The coaching staff handed out team and conference awards as the student-athletes, staff members, parents and program supporters reflected back on the 2010 campaign.
The coaching staff honored the athletes with plaques for their on-the-court accomplishments while the team's academic supervisor Kelle Branting extolled the efforts of the student-athletes in the classroom.
Walking away with team awards were Kay Lin Connolly, Meghan Horio, Irene Hester and Kristen Hester. Connolly raked in honors for leading the team in digs per set (3.44 dpg). Horio was honored as the team leader in assists (905) and digs (335). Irene Hester took home a plaque honoring her as the leader in kills (403), aces (41) and points (468). Kristen Hester led the squad in attack percentage (.329) and blocks (100).
Academically, 13 members of the squad were inducted into TCU's 3.0 club, while Emily Kirby and Sloane Sunstrum were named to TCU's Dean's List.
Seniors Christy Hudson and Irene Hester were honored for joining the 1,000 kill club, both accomplishing the feat in the same game on Nov. 11 against Wyoming. Head coach Prentice Lewis presented the duo with a notebook containing articles and awards from their entire four-year career.
The seniors closed out their four-year career winners of 84 contests, an average of 21 per season. TCU reached new heights during their tenure, reaching the postseason for the first time in program history and advancing to the second round of the 2009 NCAA postseason tournament.
Below is a brief look back at the 2010 campaign:
The Horned Frogs finished the season with an overall record of 15-16 and were winners of their final two contests.
Irene Hester and Christy Hudson were tabbed All-Mountain West Conference.
Christy Hudson became the first Horned Frog since Dominika Szabo in 2002, 2003 and 2004 to earn three all-conference nods in her career.
Hudson also set a school record with two triple-doubles in one season.
The Frogs produced three triple-doubles in 2010, matching their total from the first 14 years of the program.
Four Horned Frogs combined to produce 46 double-doubles on the season, including a team-high 15 from Meghan Horio.
TCU averaged a school-record 1,319 fans.
In total, 21,097 fans attended TCU volleyball matches this season, a total that ranked 24th nationally.
Irene Hester led the league in kills per set (3.77) and points per set (4.37), while ranking second in aces per set (0.38).
She was the lone player in the league to rack up 400 kills, finishing the season with 403 kills.
Four Frogs (Irene Hester, Christy Hudson, Meghan Horio and Kay Lin Connolly) finished the season with 300 or more digs. In 2009, only two Frogs surpassed 300 digs.
Six of the Horned Frogs' opponents earned a berth in the NCAA tournament. TCU was a combined 3-5 against Texas (0-1), UT San Antonio (1-0), Ohio (1-0), LSU (0-1), Colorado State (0-2) and New Mexico (1-1).
Kristen Hester led the team in blocks this season with 100 total (18 solo, 82 assists). She has reached the 100-block mark each of the last two seasons.
Four Frogs (Irene Hester, Christy Hudson, Kristen Hester and Jordan Raines) all averaged at least 2.28 kills per set.
Eleven of the team's 15 victories came via the sweep, three in four-set matches and one in five sets.
