FORT WORTH, Texas - The AVCA honored the TCU volleyball team on Wednesday with the Volleyball Market/AVCA Play of the Week. It is the second time in the last two seasons the Horned Frogs have won the Play of the Week.
The Horned Frogs earned the honor after beating the other four semifinalists - Clemson University, Converse College, the University of Mississippi and the University of Tennessee - during a week-long voting period.
The award-winning play came during TCU's home match against Mid-American Conference foe Ohio University on September 18. The 10-second play is highlighted by the Horned Frogs' outstanding save of an Ohio attack attempt from the right side. After TCU's serve to start out the play, Ohio set the ball up for a slide coming from their middle blocker. TCU's middle back player, Irene Hester, dug the ball up sending it deep to an unmanned corner of the Bobcats backcourt for the win of the point.
TCU went on to win the match 3-1, which led the Horned Frogs to become champions of the Nike Invitational.
The play will now join the previous weeks' finalists in becoming eligible for the Volleyball Market/AVCA Play of the Year, to be announced at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet on Friday, Dec. 17, at the AVCA Convention in Kansas City, Mo.
