NOTES ON A SCORECARD
We appreciate all the purple in the stands in Dallas Friday as we held on to the Iron Skillet. While our football team heads to Colorado State for our Mountain West Conference opener, we hope you'll be able to support our volleyball and soccer teams at home this weekend. Volleyball hosts UNLV Thursday at 7 p.m. and Air Force Saturday at 1. Soccer is at Jane Justin Field at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium Sunday at 1 p.m. versus Houston Baptist.
RUMOR MILL
TCU is a proud member of the Mountain West Conference. During this period of an ever-changing landscape in collegiate athletics, there has been speculation on future conference affiliation for TCU. As I'm sure you've seen by now, the latest talk making the rounds is the Big East Conference. Our policy has always been and will remain to not respond to rumors. As part of serving our student-athletes and coaches, we can assure everyone that our No. 1 priority is to protect TCU's best interests.
PEP RALLY
A pep rally to kick off breast cancer awareness month in October will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Baylor All Saints Medical Center Fountain in Fort Worth. It will also highlight our sixth-annual Frogs for the Cure game on Oct. 16 versus BYU. SuperFrog and TCU cheerleaders will be present along with Tim Halperin who will be producing a song with proceeds from iTunes sales benefiting the Komen Foundation. Ann Louden has provided great leadership for us on this project.
TOWN HALL MEETINGS
Our Town Hall meetings in regards to the Amon G. Carter Stadium renovation are set for Oct. 12 and Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. in the third-floor ballroom of the Brown-Lupton University Union. We have very limited seating so please plan to arrive early. We will have a presentation on the stadium and take your questions on seating and parking reallocation. For those unable to attend, we will provide a live video stream of the meetings on our Web site (www.GoFrogs.com).
CHECKING THE CLASSROOM
This is a stressful time for our student-athletes as midterms are upon us. We are currently entering our 2009-10 APR data. As another example of how fortunate we are to have coaches who show you can graduate your student-athletes and also win, Gary Patterson was recently ranked in the top 25 nationally in a listing of football coaches with the highest APR scores for their programs.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Our SuperFrog Facebook page is now nearing 6,300 followers. Make sure to check it out for the latest promotions, contests and event information.
HERE COMES THE BUS
An old friend returned to campus today as ESPN's DIRECTV bus made a stop in front of the John Justin Athletic Center. It's the third time in the last year we've had this tremendous exposure opportunity. The bus contains its own studio as Gary Patterson and Andy Dalton appeared live on SportsCenter while also taping segments with College Football Live and other ESPN studio shows.
HITTING THE LINKS
Registration continues for the Oct. 11 Horned Frog Classic at Colonial Country Club. This is the 32nd year of our very successful fundraiser and we'd like to extend a special thanks to Greenwood Office Outfitters for becoming our title sponsor. The winning team will be sent to the Acura College Alumni Team Championship Nov. 5-7 at Pinehurst, N.C. Please contact John Denton (j.denton@tcu.edu TICKETS ANYONE
We anticipate more sellouts at home football games this season. Please make plans to purchase your tickets in advance and arrive early at the stadium to avoid long lines at the will call windows and entrance gates.
FROM THE HARDWOOD
While our fall sports are well underway, basketball season is just around the corner. We have student-athletes you can be proud of in our men's and women's programs. Please make every effort to support them by purchasing season tickets and also being in attendance for them. We have very attractive home schedules for both squads. Our women's team has a 22-game home winning streak, fifth-longest in the nation.
TEAM AWARD
A special thanks to Chancellor Boschini for his support and to my predecessors Frank Windegger, Eric Hyman and Danny Morrison in laying the foundation for us to receive the 2010 Bobby Dodd Athletic Director's Award. The Bobby Dodd Foundation has become a great friend of TCU and we were honored last spring when Gary Patterson was presented the 2009 Bobby Dodd Award as the nation's top football coach.
KEEP IN TOUCH
Please let us know if you ever have any questions or concerns regarding our program. This is also your program and we value your feedback.
