
Winkler Takes Home Silver With Team USA

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU junior right-handed pitcher Kyle Winkler wrapped up a successful stint with Team USA this summer, taking home a silver medal at the V FISU World University Baseball Championships inside Meiji Jingu Stadium in Tokyo, Japan.
Team USA dropped a 4-3 extra-inning contest to Cuba to take home the silver medal. Overall, the team was 5-1 at FISU, defeating Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Canada, China and Japan. For the summer, the team posted a 16-3 record.
Winkler made six appearances for Team USA. He was 1-0 and combined on three of the five shutouts on the summer. In 12 2/3 innings pitched, Winkler fanned 14 batters, walked three, limited opponents to a .196 batting average and posted an ERA of 2.13.
Baseball athletic trainer Danny Wheat also served as the head athletic trainer for Team USA.
