FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU assistant coach Kindel Huffman recently sat down with GoFrogs.com to share her thoughts on the upcoming 2010-11 season and much more.
While being in charge of the Hunt Seat team, Huffman saw great success during the 2009-10 school year. The Hunt Seat team claimed TCU's first ever victory on the English side of nationals against Baylor. The next round showed a dominating performance, downing No. 8 Fresno State in a 6-2 decision to advance to face No. 6 Oklahoma State. The No. 12 Hunt Seat Team dropped a 4-2 decision to Oklahoma State to finish sixth overall at the 2010 Varsity Equestrian National Championships, which is the highest placing in school history.
How do you feel the 2009-10 season went?
The season went great. The beginning of the year was a time of adjustment for the girls and myself as a new coach, but the second half of the season was very successful.
What is it like to be able to coach here at TCU after being on the team?
It is great to coach here because TCU is my family. I could not imagine myself in any other color.
What is your favorite memory from riding at TCU?
My favorite memory is definitely winning the National Championship. I was a senior and a team captain. We had dedicated a lot of time and effort towards the team and to be able to reach our goal of winning the National Championship was truly an amazing feeling.
What are the different challenges in competing or coaching?
When I was competing on the team as an athlete, I only had to prepare myself to compete. Now as a coach, I have to prepare a whole team.
What do you expect out of year two of coach at TCU?
I am extremely excited about this season, mostly because we ended on such a great mark at nationals. I believe the team will take off from where we left off in April.
What do you find most rewarding about coaching college athletes?
I believe in making a difference in young women's lives. It is rewarding to help them accomplish their goals as an athlete and grow as individuals in life.
How do you spend your free time outside of coaching?
All of my free time is spent riding horses. I cannot get enough of the sport and I continue to compete on my own outside of TCU.
What is your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is 8 Seconds.
If you were stranded on an island what two things would you need?
I would need my Bible and my dog Presslie.
What is your favorite song or singer right now?
My favorite song right now is, Our God by Chris Tomlin.
What do you like most about TCU?
I love the fun atmosphere, friendly students, staff and football games.
What is it like to have your sister on the team?
I would not change it for the world. I love having my sister on the team. Not only are we great friends, but we really work well together. She is extremely talented on a horse and I enjoy watching her compete.
