LAS VEGAS - The Mountain West Conference announced its 2010 preseason all-conference football team Tuesday as selected by members of the media. TCU swept the individual awards with senior quarterback Andy Dalton being named Preseason MWC Offensive Player of the Year, junior linebacker Tank Carder selected as Defensive Player of the Year and senior punt/kick returner Jeremy Kerley tabbed Special Teams Player of the Year.
In addition to being selected for major awards, Dalton, Carder and Kerley also were among a league-best group of eight Horned Frogs named to the preseason all-conference squad. Dalton and Kerley were two of only three unanimous selections along with BYU offensive lineman Matt Reynolds.
Five other Frogs were also named Preseason All-MWC, including: seniors Marcus Cannon (OL), Wayne Daniels (DL), Cory Grant (DL) and Jake Kirkpatrick (OL); and junior Ross Evans (PK).
Dalton, the 2009 MWC Offensive Player of the Year award recipient, threw 23 touchdown passes and set a TCU single-season record for passing yards with 2,756 during his junior campaign. A native of Katy, Texas, Dalton owns 29 career victories, which leads the nation among active quarterbacks.
Carder, a second-team All-MWC honoree in 2009, ranked second on TCU with 89 tackles, including 10 for loss, during his sophomore season. A 13-game starter, Carder also tallied 10 pass breakups and one interception for a Frog unit that led the nation in total defense by allowing only 239.7 yards per game.
Kerley, the reigning MWC Special Teams Player of the year, led the league in punt returns (39) and total punt return yardage (563) while also leading the conference in kickoff return average (26.6 yards). The Hutto, Texas, native also amassed a league-high 1,624 all-purpose yards last season.
Cannon and Evans were both first-team All-MWC selections in 2009, while Daniels, Grant and Kirkpatrick were second-team honorees.
