FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team produced its most successful season on the court in school history in 2009. Even more importantly, the Horned Frogs got the job done in the classroom. On Wednesday, the volleyball team was honored by the AVCA with a Team Academic Award for their achievements in the classroom.
TCU posted a team GPA of 3.42 over the course of the 2009-2010 academic year. The Frogs placed six members, Katelyn Blackwood, Kourtney Edwards, Christy Hudson, Megan Munce, Kylie Pont and Sloane Sunstrum, on the Fall 2009 Academic All-Conference team. Three members, Edwards, Hudson and Sunstrum, achieved the prestigious Scholar Athlete award from the league.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.
In total, 450 institutions, including high schools and colleges at all levels, were honored by the AVCA. 94 Division I institutes were honored. New Mexico was the only other Mountain West Conference school honored by the AVCA.
