MONCTON, Canada - Freshman Charles Silmon just missed gold medal accolades on Wednesday night in the men's 100 meters, crossing the finish line in second-place at the 13th running of the IAAF World Junior Championships.Silmon, a Waco native, who darted to the lead through the last half of the race looked to have brought home the title, but was outleaned at the line by Jamaica's Dexter Lee to earn runner-up honors. Overall, Silmon clocked a personal-best time of 10.23 seconds, while Lee posted a time of 10.21 seconds at University of Moncton Stadium.
"It was okay," said Silmon. "I didn't execute good, but I'll get it next time. I don't know, he just beat me fair and square. That's all it was. It was a tough race because I wasn't in there first and then I came out of nowhere. I'm having a good time."
Silmon will compete on the United States men's 4x100 later this week in Canada.
