
Winkler, Coats Lead Frogs In Summer Play

FORT WORTH, Texas -The TCU baseball squad have 14 players spread out all over the country playing baseball in the summer leagues. Kyle Winkler headlines the group, pitching for Team USA, while Jason Coats, Josh Elander, Kaleb Merck, Kyle Von Tungeln and Erik Miller are playing in the prestigious Cape Cod League.
In Winkler's only appearance with the National Team, he combined with two other pitchers to throw a no-hitter against Korea on July 14th. He retired six of the seven batters he faced in two innings pitched. He struck out one and allowed just one walk in the outing.
Coats is playing for the Bourne Braves along with catcher Josh Elander. Coats is batting a team-high .391 with four RBIs in six games played, while Elander is hitting .250 with one double and a run batted in.
Another pair of Frogs appear on the Falmouth Commodores roster in Merck and von Tungeln. Merck has posted an era of 0.00 in 6 1/3 innings pitched spanning three appearances. He has a record of 1-0 with two strikeouts and an opposing batting average against of .136. Von Tunglen has two doubles with six RBIs and is batting .294 in eight games played.
Miller is playing for the Wareham Gatemen and has appeared in one contest. In 2 1/3 innings pitched, the right-hander has one punch out.
Two Frogs are playing for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in the Alaskan League. Catcher Jimmie Pharr has played in 11 games and tallied two RBIs. Right-handed pitcher Kyle Starratt has tossed 3 1/3 innings with a 0.00 era and no walks allowed.
In the Texas Collegiate League, infielder Relly Mercurio is playing for the Texas Tomcats. He is batting .357 in eight games played. Mercurio has driven in five runs along with tallying five doubles.
Infielder Davy Wright is playing for Rochester in the Northwoods League. He has played in eight games and is batting .348 with three RBIs and four doubles.
Infielder Jantzen Witte and outfielder Brance Rivera are playing in the New England Collegiate League for Vermont. Witte has five RBIs with four doubles and is batting .353 with 12 hits in eight games. Rivera is batting .250 with three RBIs and three runs scored. He has totaled eight hits and one double in eight games.
The Kamuela Paniolos of the Hawaiian Collegiate League have two members of the Frogs' highly touted freshman class that redshirted in 2010. Pitcher Griffin Davis has two starts with 16 innings pitched. He has eight strikeouts with an era of 3.94 and a record of 2-1. Pitcher Tyler Duffie has a record of 3-0 with an era of 2.37. In 19 innings pitched, he has tallied23 strikeouts.
