
Purke Named Baseball America Freshman of the Year

FORT WORTH, Texas - The honors continue to roll in for TCU baseball freshman Matt Purke. He was named Baseball America's Freshman of the Year as well as earning a spot on the Freshman All-American squad. He is one of just two freshmen to also be named an All-American by the publication.
Purke was dominating in his freshman campaign, leading the nation with a perfect 16-0 record. He made 20 appearances, 18 of which were starts. The left-hander posted a 3.02 ERA in 116 1/3 innings pitched. He led the staff with 142 strikeouts and limited opponents to a .212 batting average.
He is the consensus National Freshman Pitcher of the Year, earning the honors from Louisville Slugger, Rivals.com, the NCBWA and the ABCA. He earned first-team All-American honors from the ABCA and was also a second-team All-American by Louisville Slugger, Rivals.com and the NCBWA. Purke was named first-team All-Mountain West Conference as well as earning Freshman of the Year honors from the league.
