
ABCA/Rawlings Honors Four Frogs

FORT WORTH, Texas - Matt Purke was tabbed a first-team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings, while Bryan Holaday earned second-team All-American accolades. In addition, Jason Coats and Steven Maxwell were tabbed as All-Midwest region players.
Purke completed a dominate freshman campaign with a perfect 16-0 record, tops in the NCAA. The left-hander tossed 116 1/3 innings with 142 strikeouts to go along with a 3.02 ERA in 20 appearances. He made two starts in the Frogs first-ever trip to the College World Series and dominated with a 2-0 record with a 1.35 ERA. Purke was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year in addition to earning Louisville Slugger and NCBWA Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors.
Holaday was dominating in his senior campaign. He finished the season with career-highs in batting average (.355), hits (99), doubles (24), home runs (17) and RBIs (53). In five games at the College World Series, Holaday led the team with a .409 batting average to go along with four home runs and five RBIs. The senior catcher was named first-team all-conference and is a finalist for the Johnny Bench Award, given to the nation's top catcher.
Coats led the team with a .361 batting average, playing in 67 games and making 66 starts. A first-team all-conference performer, Coats established career-highs with 99 hits, 23 doubles and 13 home runs.
Maxwell was named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Year after a dominating junior campaign. The right-hander recorded a staff-low 2.70 ERA in 18 starts this season. He posted an 11-2 record, fanned 93 batters in 103 1/3 innings pitched. He limited opponents to a .239 batting average against.
