FORT WORTH, Texas - The following is a breakdown of the Horned Frogs who will be competing at the 2010 NCAA West Preliminary Round next week in Austin.
Sprints
Men's 100 Meters
Charles Silmon
Silmon comes into the West Preliminary Round, having clocked the seventh-fastest time in the region. In his last outing, Silmon captured the 100 meters title at the conference championships, blazing to a personal-best time of 10.24 seconds to capture his first conference title of his young career. Silmon's time, which set a new Mountain West Conference Championship record, is No. 7 in the West Region and No. 19 in the NCAA this spring. By winning the 100 meters, Silmon was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Most Outstanding Performer.
Mychal Dungey
Dungey comes into the 100 meters, following a third-place showing in the event at the 2010 MWC Outdoor Championships. The Austin native posted a seasonal-best time of 10.38 seconds in Albuquerque. He is currently ranked in the top 20 in the region heading into action next week.
Skye Dawson
The freshman qualified for the West Preliminary Round by turning in a preliminary time of 10.41 at the Mountain West Conference Championships. Dawson placed seventh overall in the finals of the 100 metes at the conference championships.
Mark Barnes
Barnes has come on late in the year to tally a spot in the preliminary round in the 100 meters. The sophomore broke out at the conference championships, crossing the finish line in fourth-place with a seasonal-best time of 10.41 seconds.
OJ Stoneham
Stoneham grabbed the final spot in the West Preliminary Round in the 100 meters after clocking a personal and seasonal-best time of 10.61 seconds earlier this year at the Horned Frog Invitational.
Women's 100 Meters
Chaniqua Corinealdi
The freshman heads into the West Preliminary Round following a solid showing at the 2010 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships. Corinealdi, a freshman from Killeen, led TCU in the women's 100 meters last Saturday, earning runner-up accolades with a seasonal-best time of 11.71 seconds.
Men's 200 Meters
Mychal Dungey
Dungey has once again had a stellar season in the 200 meters, winning his second-straight conference title last week at the 2010 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships. The junior clipped Silmon at the line with a personal-best time of 20.64 seconds to win his second-consecutive conference title in the 200 meters. Dungey's time is the second-fastest time ever recorded in MWC Championship history and the third-best all-time in league history. He is currently ranked No. 6 amongst competitors in the 200 meters, while also ranking No. 21 in the NCAA.
Charles Silmon
Silmon will also compete in the 200 meters in Austin after earning runner-up accolades last weekend at the conference championships. Silmon, a freshman from Waco, just missed his second conference title last Saturday, earning second-place with a personal-best time of 20.65 seconds. He sits No. 7 in the region and ranks in the top 25 in the NCAA heading into next week.
Mark Barnes
Barnes will also compete in the 200 meters in Austin after turning in a fifth-place showing at the conference championships in the event with a seasonal-best time of 21.03 seconds.
Women's 200 Meters
Chaniqua Corinealdi
Corinealdi will also compete in the 200 meters in Austin after clocking the No. 28 ranked time amongst competitors in the West Preliminary Round last weekend at the conference championships. Corinealdi finished third overall in the women's 200 meters at the MWC Outdoor Championships with a seasonal-best time of 23.93 seconds.
Men's 400 Meters
Dell Guy
Guy, a senior from Las Vegas, closed his MWC career last weekend in style, capturing first-place with a blazing personal-best time of 46.39 seconds. With his personal-best time, Guy, who captured the Frogs' first title in the event since 2006, moved up to No. 16 in the West Region.
Clemore Henry
Fellow senior Henry comes into the West Preliminary Round following a third-place showing at the conference championships. Henry turned in a personal and seasonal-best time of 46.82 seconds at the Texas Invitational a few weeks ago to advance to the regional.
Women's 400 Meters
Kristal Juarez
Juarez heads to the NCAA Preliminary Round ranking in the top 15 in the NCAA. She also sits No. 11 in the region amongst competitors competing at the West Preliminary Round. Juarez, an indoor All-American, captured gold medal accolades with a seasonal and personal-best time of 52.91 seconds at the conference championships.
Quinterra Charles
The freshman came on late in the year to qualify for preliminary round action. Charles crossed the finish line at conference in third-place with a personal-best time of 53.58 seconds. She ranks in the top 20 in the West Region amongst competitors.
Distance
Men's 800 Meters
Jack O'Brien
O'Brien will make his first postseason appearance next week in Austin after clocking a personal-best time of 1:50.39 seconds to place fifth overall in a highly competitive field in Albuquerque at the conference championships.
Sean Zurko
Zurko, a Las Vegas native, qualified for the West Preliminary Round after crossing the finish line in fourth-place in the men's 800 meters at the Texas Invite earlier this spring, clocking a seasonal-best time of 1:49.99.
Men's 5,000 Meters
Festus Kigen
Kigen, an indoor All-America honoree, comes into the preliminary round ranked in the top 30 in the West Region. The junior, who had the 18th-best time amongst competitors in the preliminary round, clocked a time of 13:52.06 to place 10th overall out of 27 competitors in the men's 5,000 meters at the Mt. SAC Relays. Kigen's personal-best time is the second-fastest time ever posted in program history.
Women's 5,000 Meters
Rose Tanui
Tanui won a Mountain West Conference Championship last weekend, clocking a time of 17:21.06 in the 5,000 meters. She destroyed the previous school record in the women's 5,000 meters earlier this year at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays. Tanui clocked a seasonal and personal-best time of 16:13.30 to place ninth overall. She ranks No. 23 in the NCAA heading into Austin.
Hurdles
Men's 110-Meter Hurdles
Jordan Pitts
Pitts heads to Austin after making conference history last Saturday becoming the first student-athlete in MWC history to claim three-straight 110-meter hurdle titles. The junior, who ranks in the top 20 in the NCAA, will look to qualify for his first NCAA Championships next week after breezing to a personal-best time of 13.94 seconds to place first overall at the Horned Frog Invitational earlier this season.
Women's 100-Meter Hurdles
Larissa Matthews
Matthews became only the second Horned Frog in TCU history last Saturday to win a Mountain West Conference title in the 100-meter hurdles with a winning-time of 13.49 seconds. She currently sits No. 18 in the NCAA after clocking a seasonal and personal-best time of 13.44 seconds earlier this year at the Texas Invite.
Men's 400-Meter Hurdles
Clint Renfro
The junior came on strong at the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships last week, earning runner-up accolades with a personal-best time of 50.82 seconds. By recording a time of 50.82 seconds, Renfro smashed Clayton Brookings previous school record of 50.90 seconds, which he set in 1998. He currently sits No. 17 amongst competitors in the preliminary round, while also ranking No. 17 in the NCAA.
Jordan Pitts
Pitts will also compete in the 400-meter hurdles in Austin, after earning third-place honors in the event last week at the conference championships, recording a personal-best time of 51.17 seconds, which is the second-fastest time recorded in program history. He ranks No. 22 in the NCAA heading into the West Preliminary Round.
Field Events
Men's Shot Put
Cameron Tabor
Freshman Cameron Tabor will make his first appearance at the West Preliminary Round after ranking No. 35 in the region this spring amongst competitors. He also ranks No. 38 in the NCAA this season after tossing the shot 56 feet, 1 ¼ inches to earn fourth-place honors at the conference championships with a seasonal and personal-best throw.
Women's Shot Put
Stormy Harrison
Harrison captured second-place honors at the conference championships in the women's shot put with a seasonal-best throw of 50 feet, 11 ½ inches. She sits No. 16 in the West Preliminary Round amongst competitors, while also ranking in the top 45 in the NCAA this spring.
Kelsey Samuels
Samuels will make her first postseason appearance next week following a third-place showing at conference with a personal-best throw of 50 feet, 2 inches, which currently sits fourth all-time in program history. She heads to Austin ranked No. 20 in the West Preliminary Round amongst competitors.
Men's Discus
Tommy Killen
Killen comes into the regional following a second-place performance at the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships. He currently ranks No. 8 in the NCAA after throwing the discus 189 feet, 7 inches at the TCU Invitational earlier this spring.
Cameron Tabor
Tabor, a Norman, Okla., native, will also compete in the men's discus in Austin. He currently sits No. 42 amongst competitors in the West Preliminary Round, while also ranking in the top 45 in the NCAA. He has thrown a seasonal-best toss of 173 feet, 7 inches, which he did at the Horned Frog Invitational to open the spring campaign.
Women's Long Jump
Whitney Gipson
Gipson smashed the school record in the women's long jump last Friday to earn runner-up accolades with the second-best leap in Mountain West Conference history at the 2010 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships. Gipson, a two-time All-American, soared 21 feet, 8 inches to capture second-place honors with the fourth-best jump in the NCAA at the UNM Track Stadium. Gipson's personal-best leap, which is currently ranked in the top 20 in the world standings, crushed former Horned Frog great Donna Thomas' previous school record of 21 feet, 5 ½ inches. Her jump is also the fourth-best jump in the West Region this spring and No. 5 in the NCAA.
Neidra Covington
Covington followed in third-place at the conference championships in the women's long jump with a personal-best jump of 20 feet, 9 inches. The four-time All-American's leap currently sits No. 21 in the NCAA, while also ranking No. 2 all-time in program history.
Women's Triple Jump
Neidra Covington
Covington closed her remarkable Mountain West Conference career last Saturday, crushing the rest of the field in the women's triple jump with a new stadium, school and MWC Championships record. The four-time All-American, who bettered her previous school record, soared 44 feet, 2 inches to win championship accolades. Covington's leap is currently No. 2 in the NCAA and the top-mark in the West Region this spring. It is also the 15th-best jump in the World and the third-best leap in MWC history all-time.
The Relays
Men's 4x100
The men's 4x100 unit of Skye Dawson, Charles Silmon, Mychal Dungey, Mark Barnes and Clemore Henry comes into the West Preliminary Round ranked No. 3 in the region. The quartet also sits No. 6 in the NCAA after blazing to second-place accolades earlier this year at the Texas Relays with a seasonal-best time of 39.20 seconds.
Women's 4x100
The women's 4x100 will look to qualify for the NCAA Championships next week after placing third at the conference championships with a seasonal-best time of 44.93 seconds.
The Men's 4x400
The men's 4x400, which could consist of Dell Guy, Clemore Henry, Clint Renfro and Sean Zurko, comes into the West Preliminary Round having clocked a seasonal-best time of 3:07.71 at the Texas Invitational earlier this spring. Mychal Dungey and Jordan Pitts have also seen action on the relay and could make appearances next week on the quartet. The 4x400 currently ranks No. 8 in the West Region amongst relay units competing at the West Preliminary Round.
The Women's 4x400
The Frogs came up big last weekend, winning the conference title with a seasonal-best time of 3:38.72 to earn a spot in the West Preliminary Round. The quartet, which consists of Hayley Shade, Quinterra Charles, Sade' Shari St. Louis and Kristal Juarez, checks in at No. 16 in the region amongst relays in action in Austin.
