WILMINGTON, N.C. -- TCU's Valentine Derrey was named to the NCAA All-East Region team by the National Golf Coaches Association.
Derrey, the lone senior in TCU's lineup, helped the Horned Frogs overcome a 2-stroke deficit entering the final round of the NCAA East Regional in Greenville, N.C., earlier this month. It enabled TCU to qualify for a school record fourth-consecutive NCAA Championship appearance.
The Paris, France, native carded a final-round 72 to finish regional play at even-par 216 and tied for ninth individually. She posted her best tournament score since also shooting an even-par 216 at last year's NCAA West Regional.
Derrey continued her standout play at the NCAA Championship. Her 72-hole score of 296 was TCU's best mark at an NCAA Championship since Rita Moore and Marci Bozarth shot 294 and 295, respectively, in leading the Horned Frogs to the 1983 national title.
Derrey became the first TCU women's golfer to play in four NCAA Championships. She joined former Horned Frog All-American and current LPGA star Angela Stanford as the only four-time all-conference selections in TCU women's golf history.
Derrey received the second all-region honor of her career. She was also named to the 2008 NCAA All-Central Region team in addition to earning All-America accolades from the NGCA and Golfweek.
