FORT WORTH, Texas - A year after capturing her first collegiate individual national title, senior Carrie von Uhlit will close one of the most impressive careers in TCU history next week at the 2010 Varsity Equestrian National Championships.
Von Uhlit, a senior from Winters, Calif., recently sat down with GoFrogs.com to talk about her remarkable career in Fort Worth.
Overall, von Uhlit returns to Waco next week looking to capture her second-consecutive national title in Reining. During her career, she has captured multiple AQHA World Championships, as well as over 200 individual championships. As a Horned Frog, von Uhlit, who helped TCU earn the 2008 Varsity Equestrian Western National Championship, has been with the program since the first year of its existence.
What would you consider your biggest accomplishment at TCU?
"I would say probably winning two Varsity Equestrian National Championship titles."
What has it been like to compete for the TCU equestrian program?
"Competing for the TCU equestrian program has been an unbelievable experience. I have learned so much about teamwork and what it is like to be around such amazing and wonderful people as I am everyday."
You have been here since the program first started, what has been the biggest change for the program?
"The biggest change has been the amount of talent and depth that this team has gained. When this program started, we had very talented and accomplished riders, but the team was very small. As we have grown, we have not only added numbers to this program, but immense talent."
What will you remember most about your four years with this program?
"I will remember that you can do anything in the world as long as you have the love and support of the ones around you. I have learned that this team is my family. I would do anything for them. Having that kind of connection with your teammates is what makes this team so successful."
What are your goals heading into the National Championships?
"I plan to earn two more rings. I would like for us to win the Western National Championship as a team. Hopefully, I can capture the individual Reining National Championship again as well. While these goals are lofty, they are by no means out of reach if you are willing to work hard enough for them."
Describe a perfect day for Carrie von Uhlit?
"A perfect day is getting to ride my horses."
What has been the hardest challenge riding at TCU?
"The hardest challenge has been finding the balance between academics and the team. While riding is the most enjoyable part of my day, I always have to remind myself that work in the classroom comes first because that is the only way I will remain successful."
Looking back on this year, what are you most proud of?
"I am most proud of how much our team has grown since the season started. We have so many talented riders from top to bottom. It has been a blessing to get to be a part of the transformation that has taken place over the last few months. We are right at the summit, getting ready to compete at nationals. We are more ready than we have ever been."
