
Rifle Scores Victory in NCAA Qualifier

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU rifle team continued their hot shooting as they handed Air Force a 4,654-4,607 loss in the NCAA Qualifier held at the TCU Rifle Range Saturday. Caitlin Morrissey fired a 592 in air rifle and Sarah Beard shot a 581 in smallbore to lead the Frogs.The victory is important for the Frogs as they chase a berth in the upcoming NCAA Championships. To qualify for the championships, the committee takes the three of the team's top scores from the regular season. All three of the scores must come from different venues, with the NCAA Qualifier being one of them.
The Frogs posted a solid mark in air rifle as they team combined for a score of 2,345. The Frogs took home the top three spots. Following Morrissey's tally of 592, Sarah Scherer and Simone Riford each shot a 590.
While Riford did not factor in the final team score, Erin Lorenzen's mark of 582 and Beard's score of 581 did. The Falcons kept made it close with four solid scores, notching a 2,336 in the event.
In smallbore, the Frogs raced away with a 2,309-2,271 victory. Beard paced all shooters for first with her 581. Scherer pitched in with a 58, followed closely by Lorenzen's tally of 577. Rounding out the couters was Riford with a 573.
In total, Scherer posted an aggregate score of 1,168 to take home the top honors of the match. Riford's aggregate of 1,163 was third overall.
The Frogs will be off for a month as they get ready to host the NCAA Rifle Championships on March 12-13. This will mark the second straight season the Frogs have hosted the championships.
