TCU Finishes 10th In Spring Opener

PALOS VERDE, Calif. -- TCU shot a final-round 303 Wednesday to finish 10th at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verde, Calif.
The 15-team field included 11 of the top-20 programs in the nation. The No. 33 Horned Frogs, making their spring debut, dropped their score each day at the 54-hole tournament. Only five teams shot better than TCU Wednesday.
Dating back to the fall, the Horned Frogs have posted five consecutive top-10 finishes.
Valentine Derrey led TCU with a final-round 74. The senior from Paris, France, birdied two of her opening four holes and finished with three birdies on the day. Derrey tied for 21st individually at 226.
Melissa Loh shot her second-straight 76 for TCU. Rachel Raastad also carded a 76 for her low round of the tournament, dropping her score two strokes each day.
Allyson Ferguson had three birdies en route to a 77.
No. 8 USC had a 24-over-par 876 to win the team title by three strokes over No. 14 Pepperdine. The Waves' Lisa McCloskey captured medalist honors with a 2-under 211.
TCU returns to action Feb. 22 at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla.
