FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU's Andy Dalton has been named a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award, presented to the nation's top quarterback.
The Davey O'Brien Award is named after TCU's 1938 Heisman Trophy winning signal caller. O'Brien also led the Horned Frogs to the national championship that season.
Dalton tops all active quarterbacks nationally with 37 victories. Earlier this season, he moved past Slingin' Sammy Baugh to become TCU's career leader in wins.
Dalton's career-best 65.5 completion percentage this fall is on pace to shatter TCU's single-season mark of 61.9 (Jeff Ballard, 2006). Dalton has thrown for 14 touchdowns with just five interceptions. He ranks third on TCU in rushing with 374 yards on a 6.3 per carry mark. He ran for a career-best 93 yards Saturday versus Air Force.
A senior from Katy, Texas, Dalton is TCU's career leader in touchdown passes (58), passing yards (9,092), completions (730), attempts (1,195) and total offense (10,642 yards). His 20 career rushing touchdowns are first among Horned Frog quarterbacks and tied for eighth all-time in TCU history.
Dalton, who has at least one touchdown pass in 16 consecutive games, is one of just seven active quarterbacks with over 5,000 career yards passing and 1,000 rushing. He ranks third among active players (minimum 800 attempts) in lowest interception percentage (2.4).
Dalton has led TCU to top-10 rankings the last three seasons and is a two-time bowl game most valuable player.
The semifinalists were selected by The O'Brien National Selection Committee with the Fan Vote accounting for five percent of the total vote. The committee was asked to consider the following criteria: quarterback skills, academics, character, leadership and sportsmanship.
The Davey O'Brien Foundation and the Selection Committee will announce three finalists on Nov. 22. The 2010 winner will be announced on The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show on Dec. 9 and honored at the 34th-annual O'Brien Awards Dinner on Feb. 21, 2011 at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth.
