PROVO, Utah - The TCU men's and women's swimming and diving teams will wrap-up their swing through the Beehive State with a Mountain West Conference showdown at BYU Friday in the Richards Building pool.
"BYU has had one of the tops in the conference and we're looking forward to the challenge," TCU head coach Richard Sybesma said.
After an incredible win over Utah Wednesday night, the TCU men's squad will enter the meet against the Cougars with an undefeated overall record of 4-0 and a league mark of 3-0. The three wins against the league stands as the most for the Frogs since joining the MWC in 2005-06, topping Air Force, Wyoming and the Utes this season. Junior Jeff Gettel has been one of many bright spots for TCU, sweeping the backstroke events in all four dual meets this year. In fact, the Plano, Texas native is a perfect 8-0 against the MWC in the 200-back in the last two seasons.
The women's team (5-4 overall, 1-4 MWC) will look to rebound after a tight battle with Utah Wednesday. Senior diver Jennifer Ferguson and junior distance swimmer Maria Paula Alvarez paced the Frogs with a pair of wins each. Ferguson's 317.25 score from the three-meter springboard serves as the third-best score in TCU history. Junior Brittney Martinez and sophomore Jennifer Oster teamed up to sweep the backstroke events.
The BYU swimming and diving team wrapped up fall competition at the Toshiba Classic on Nov. 21, and will be competing for the first time in 2010 on Friday. A heavy favorite in the MWC this season, BYU's women are currently 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the league, anchored by three returning conference champions and an All-American diver. The BYU men's team enter Friday's meet with a 2-1 record, highlighted by wins over Arizona State and Seattle. Their lone loss came in league action against UNLV.
