FORT WORTH, Texas - Flyin' Frogs head coach Darryl Anderson once again sat down with GoFrogs.com this past week to give fans an inside look into how practice has gone during preseason workouts.
This is the second installment of Anderson's weekly look into preseason workouts. TCU will open the indoor season on Dec. 12 at the Texas A&M Invitational.
Breakdown
We have made a lot of progress in a short period of time. After the first week, the kids were struggling a little bit with the workload and you could tell that not a lot of training had been done over the summer break, but I think they have caught up a little bit and got their legs underneath them. They now understand the language and technical areas a lot better, which is good and a positive.
I think the people that stand out so far for us are our throwers. They are doing a great job in the weight room and Cameron Tabor is a workaholic, which is what we need. He is really getting after it, while Sara Talley and Kelsey Samuels have done a good job on the women's side of trying to understand what assistant coach John Kenneson is looking for and wants out of them. Tommy Killen and Stormy Harrison have been great so far. I have really been impressed with Stormy. She really looks like she has been working extremely hard in the weights and done a nice job.
The new kids really stand out in the sprints on the women's side. Larissa Matthews has been really steady so far. Everyday for her is always the same and she is very consistent in her work habits, which is what you want in your program. Unique Conner is another one who has done well. She has really been working hard and pushing herself.
The men's sprints have been really consistent so far, but mainly because we have so many people returning with experience. I think that Charles Silmon has done a fairly decent job so far as a newcomer. He has been steady, but has had some struggles. He is hanging in and I think the returning guys like Mychal Dungey, Dell Guy and Clemore Henry have done a great job of helping him move forward. The expectations are very high in the men's sprints because of our experience returning.
Kristal Juarez has shown some leadership lately and you know its kind of funny, she is a junior, but really this is her first fall training because she has been out the past two years. Stormy Harrison and Kristal have been doing some great things for us in the leadership department, which we need.
Our jumpers have had some adjustments to make with Coach Petersen, but I think they are handling it. Whitney Gipson and Neidra Covington are going to benefit greatly from having a better work ethic. They both just need to continue to work as hard as they can everyday.
Really, the biggest thing with our team is work ethic. We have really been pushing that this year because there are a lot more practice days then competition days. They just need to keep working if they want to have success. Our expectations need to meet our work habits.
