
TCU Set For Akron Invitational

AKRON, Ohio - The TCU Horned Frog volleyball team will go for its second straight tournament title as they take part in the Akron Invitational. The tournament begins Friday and will see the Frogs square off against St. Francis (Pa.) at 1:30 p.m. (CST). TCU will also meet West Virginia and Akron on Saturday.
TCU NOTABLES
The Horned Frogs took home the UConn Toyota Classic title with a 3-0 record this past weekend, but came up short in a 3-2 loss at SMU Tuesday night.
Kourtney Edwards was named the Tournament MVP as well as being honored as the MWC Player of the Week for the second time in her career.
Offensively, the Frogs averaged 12.6 kills per set, led by Edwards' 3.06 per set.
Defensively, the Frogs averaged 14.8 digs per set and three blocks per set.
Kristen Hester paced the team with 25 total blocks on the weekend.
Katelyn Blackwood averaged 4.7 digs per set.
Megan Munce notched two double-doubles over the weekend.
TCU tallied 31 service aces in four matches last week and continue to lead the league with 1.83 aces per set.
ST. FRANCIS NOTABLES
St. Francis has tallied just one win on the season and that came against Hampton.
Shirley Miller is the go-to gal offensively with an average of 3.38 kills per set.
Defensively, Christine Breisch and Miller pace the team, average 3.17 and 3.25 digs per set, respectively.
WEST VIRGINIA NOTABLES
Denver snapped the Mountaineers' five-game winning streak on Saturday with a 3-2 victory.
Abby Raines is the offensive leader with 3.30 kills per set on a team that is averaging 13.13 kills per set.
Defensively, Bonnie West tallies an average of 4.09 digs per set.
AKRON NOTABLES
The Zips have won five of their first seven matches this season.
Ole Miss snapped a three-game winning streak with a 3-0 defeat of Akron.
Brionna Patterson is the leading offensive threat with 3.87 kills per set.
Defensively, Megan Rodriguez averages 3.00 digs per set.
SERIES NOTES
The Frogs have only squared off against St. Francis.
TCU came away with a 3-0 victory over the Red Flash on Sept. 27, 2003 in Fort Worth.
