FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU equestrian senior Carrie von Uhlit reminisces about her National Championship season and expectations for this upcoming year in this week's addition of In The Know with the equestrian program.
When you first came to TCU four years ago, did you ever expect that you would achieve such success and be crowned an Equestrian National Champion?
"Four years ago when I decided to attend TCU there was not an equestrian team. Really, I came just to attend the business school, so when I heard the athletic department was forming a team I was very excited. The success the team has achieved in such a short period of time is amazing and it is because of all the amazing talented ladies we have on this team."
This year you won the Varsity Equestrian Reining Individual National Championship. What was the first thing you did when you found out you had won?
"The first thing I did when I found out I had won was pet the horse I rode. I then called my horse trainer, Carol Metcalf, who was competing at the NRBC in Katy, Texas to tell her the good news."
In your past three years competing as a Horned Frog, what is one memory that you will never forget?
"The thing I think I will remember most after graduating is the team motto we have which is, "Ride like a Champion". To me this means no matter what happens while you are showing, keep riding like it is exactly how you planned it. If you do this then most of the time the mistakes you do make are hidden by your confidence."
What are your plans for the future? Do you still plan on riding and competing after you have finished competing at TCU?
"I plan on graduating in the spring of 2010. I have another year to compete on the team, but when I do graduate I would like to attend law school."
