ROME, Italy - Current TCU swimmer Edgar Crespo and former Horned Frog Alejandro Gomez competed in the 50-breaststroke and 800-free, respectively, at the 13th FINA World Championships in Rome, Italy, Tuesday.
Crespo clocked in at 29.01 to place 67th out of 148 swimmers. The Panama City product took part in the 100-breast on Sunday to finish 64th out of 142 swimmers with a time of 1:02.92. The incoming sophomore will finish his week in the 200-breast Thursday.
Gomez, competing in his first event of the World Championships, turned in a personal-best time of 8:13.16 in the 800-free to claim 29th place out of 52 competitors. The TCU 1000-free record holder will return to the water for the 4 x 200-free relay Friday, followed by the 1650-free Saturday.
"I went 8:13.12, my best time by seven seconds, which is always good," Gomez said. "It's always weird for me to swim that event, because I don't know if I should go out fast and then drag at the end or go even like in the mile and then bust it in the last 100."
