FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU's Jerry Hughes has been named a preseason first-team All-American by Lindy's in addition to being tabbed by the publication as the nation's top defensive end.
Lindy's ranks TCU as having the nation's seventh-best defensive back unit. Cornerbacks Rafael Priest and Nick Sanders have started every game the last three seasons. Safety Tejay Johnson, who placed sixth on last year's team with 47 tackles, is another returning starter in the secondary.
Hughes was a consensus All-American last season when he led the nation with 15 sacks and six forced fumbles. He also ranked in the top 10 in tackles for loss (19.5) and fumble recoveries (three). Hughes added two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown. He was one of five finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, honoring the nation's top defensive player.
TCU is at No. 14 in Lindy's preseason Top 25.
