SAN DIEGO - After missing their on-campus graduation ceremony due to Poinsettia Bowl travel, six TCU football players received their degrees Monday in a commencement held at the team hotel in San Diego.
Walter Bryant, Kagen Elenburg, Austin Galifaro, Matt Panfil, Jason Phillips and Blake Schlueter were presented their degrees by TCU Chancellor Victor Boschini and Provost Nowell Donovan. Also receiving her degree was Schlueter's wife, Lorianne Hubbard Schlueter.
Bryant was a summer 2008 graduate. The other five Frogs finished their degree work this semester.
Earlier in the day, at a luncheon on the USS Midway which included both teams in attendance, senior offensive guard Giles Montgomery was selected as a recipient of a Most Inspirational Award from TCU.
Rain forced the cancelation of the Horned Frogs' scheduled afternoon walkthrough at the University of San Diego. TCU instead used a ballroom at the team hotel.
TCU head coach Gary Patterson's day began with a news conference as he met with a packed room of media at the Omni Hotel in downtown San Diego.
