
TCU Heads To Austin For Texas Relays

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU track and field program will open the month of April at the 82nd version of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Wednesday. The historic meet will feature some of the best track and field athletes in the nation and the world.Meaghan Peoples will open competition today for the Flyin' Frogs with the women's heptathlon. Start time is set for 12:30 p.m. at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
"This is a big meet, its kind of like a mini NCAA meet for us with a lot of high level competition," said head coach Darryl Anderson. "There are going to be schools from all over the country coming into Austin this week and hopefully we will continue to get better on both sides. Overall, we feel good about where we are at and I hope the weather will cooperate this week in Austin."
Competition is slated to begin tonight at 6:15 p.m. with the women's 800 meters. Following action in the women's 1500 meters at 6:35 p.m., TCU will close competition at 6:55 p.m. with the women's 5000 meters. Overall, distance competition will take place on Wednesday, while field, sprint and hurdle events will run Thursday through Saturday in Austin.
Competing for TCU on Wednesday night will be Jack O'Brien and Zane Hill in the men's 800 meters, while freshman Tiara Miller will take to the track on the women's side. In the women's 1500 meters, freshman Kelly Dawson will open competition in Austin following a third-place outing at LSU last weekend. Finally, Danielle Selner will round out TCU's student-athletes competing on Wednesday with the women's 5000 meters.
In its last outing at the LSU Relays, TCU posted 10 regional qualifying marks last Saturday. Earning NCAA regional qualifying marks at Bernie Moore Stadium were the men's 4x100 and 4x400, Tommy Killen (discus), Jordan Pitts (400-meter hurdles) and Sean Zurko (800 meters). On the women's side, Candis Kelley (shot put), Stormy Harrison (shot put), Neidra Covington (triple jump) and the women's 4x100 and 4x400 all posted regional qualifying marks.

Ticket Information For Texas Relays
Tickets to the Texas Relays can be obtained at the Mike A. Myers Stadium Box Office during the event or can be purchased in advance at TexasBoxOffice.com or by calling the UT Athletics Ticket Office at (512) 471-3333. Admission on Wednesday and Thursday are free to the public. All-session passes are $30 for reserved seating and $20 for general admission. On Friday and Saturday, general admission is $10 and reserved seating is $15 each day.
Out Of The Blocks Strong
TCU has had a strong contingent that have fared well early this spring season nationally. Heading into the Texas Relays, the Flyin' Frogs have posted seven top-30 NCAA rankings on the men's side, while the women currently have 10 individuals, including the women's 4x100 and 4x400, ranked in the top-30 on the NCAA Descending Order List.
On the men's side, Mychal Dungey has posted the eighth-best 200 meters time, while Sean Zurko clocked the fifth-best 800 meters time last weekend in Baton Rouge.
In the relays, the men's 4x100 and 4x400 both currently rank No. 7 in the nation. Also ranked for the Flyin' Frogs is sophomore Jordan Pitts, who has the 22nd-best time in the 110-meter hurdles and the 13th-best mark in the 400-meter hurdles. Finally, Tommy Killen has tossed the discus 179 feet, 8 inches to claim the 10th-best throw in the NCAA.
Jessica Young leads the TCU women with the fastest-time posted in the women's 100 meters in the NCAA, while senior Kishelle Paul currently has the 15th-best time in the 100-meter hurdles and the No. 30 ranked time in the 400-meter hurdles. In the field events, TCU has dominated the women's long and triple jump nationally early on with Whitney Gipson and Neidra Covington having posted the nations fourth and 10th-best long jumps overall, respectively. In the triple jump, Covington has soared to the nation's No. 2 leap in the NCAA, while senior Candis Kelley currently has the No. 9 throw in the NCAA in the women's shot put. Sophomore Stormy Harrison rounds out the TCU rankings in the women's shot with the 23rd-best toss in the nation.
Finally, the women's 4x100 crossed the finish line with the eighth-best time in the NCAA, while the 4x400 is No. 5 in the country heading into action this weekend in Austin.
TCU In The MWC
Entering this week's meet in Austin, TCU has the top mark posted in 18 different events in the conference, including both 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Overall, the Purple and White have 10 of the top marks posted on the men's side and eight for the women.
Overall, the Flyin' Frogs have the top times in the 100, 200, 400, 800, 110m high hurdles, 400-meter hurdles 4x100, 4x400, 4x800 and discus on the men's side. The Purple and White women claim the top spot in the 100, 200, 100m high hurdles, 4x100, 4x400, long jump, triple jump and shot put.
