
Flyin' Frogs Ready For LSU Relays

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU track and field program will close the month of March in Baton Rouge, La., this weekend at the LSU Relays."We're in our second meet of the outdoor season and will see some great competition this weekend at LSU," said head coach Darryl Anderson. "I hope the weather cooperates with us so that we are able to get some things done this weekend. Overall, we feel pretty good about where we are at going into this meet, especially since we have so many guys back that did not compete for us during the indoor season."
Action will begin on Friday at 10 a.m. with the men's hammer throw, while running events will start at 3 p.m. with preliminary action of the women's 4x100 at Bernie Moore Track Stadium. The meet will also include a high school division, which is set to open at 3 p.m. on Friday with the long jump. Competition will begin on Saturday at noon with the women's discus, while the meet will conclude at 4:55 p.m. with the men's 4x400.
Competing at the LSU Relays this weekend is a field that includes Akron, Baylor, Connecticut, LSU, Memphis, TCU, Tulane, UL-Lafayette and several others.
In its last outing, TCU had four members on the men's team win individual events, while the women's team had eight student-athletes bring home first-place honors at the Lowdon Track and Field Complex last Saturday.

TCU Opens Up Strong With Regional Marks
TCU opened up its 2009 outdoor campaign by posting 10 regional qualifying marks to go along with 12 first-place finishes at the third annual Horned Frog Invitational in Fort Worth.
Earning NCAA regional qualifying marks on the men's side were the men's 4x100, Mychal Dungey (200 meters), Tommy Killen (discus) and Jordan Pitts (110-meter hurdles). On the women's side, the 4x100, Jessica Young (100 meters), Kishelle Paul (100-meter hurdles),Whitney Gipson (long jump), Neidra Covington (long jump) and Stormy Harrison (shot put) all earned regional qualifying marks.
TCU Honored By Mountain West Conference
TCU sophomore Mychal Dungey and junior Jessica Young were selected as the Mountain West Conference men's and women's outdoor track and field athletes of the week on Tuesday.
Dungey led the Flyin' Frog men in the 200 meters at the Horned Frog Invitational, clocking an NCAA regional qualifying time of 21.13 seconds. The sophomore's time was the top-collegiate time recorded in the event last Saturday and is currently the fourth-fastest time on the NCAA performance list.
Dungey also competed as a member of the 4x100 relay team, which posted a MWC-leading time of 40.10 seconds last weekend. The NCAA regional qualifying time currently ranks third in the nation.
In the women's 100 meters, Young, a three-time All-American, clocked a personal-best and NCAA regional qualifying time of 11.24 seconds to win the event in Fort Worth. Her time is the top-time posted in the Mountain West Conference and the world this spring. It also ranks as the fourth-best time in program history and the best time in the NCAA. Finally, she recorded the third-fastest time all-time in the conference record books.
Young also anchored TCU's 4x100 relay team to a first-place finish with a league-leading time of 45.27 seconds at the Horned Frog Invitational. The regional-qualifying performance currently ranks fifth in the nation.
Young Blows Away Competition
Junior Jessica Young followed up two All-America honors during the indoor season in record fashion last weekend by winning the 100 meters in convincing fashion in Fort Worth. The South Carolina native dominated a field that included 2008 Olympian and six-time All-American Virgil Hodge, clocking a world-best and personal-best time of 11.24 seconds.
By doing so, Young, who currently has the fastest time in the NCAA, posted the third-fastest time in conference history, while also recording the fourth-best time in TCU's long line of fantastic women sprinters.
TCU Amongst The Nations Best
During the early portion of the outdoor season, the Flyin' Frogs have posted four top-15 NCAA rankings on the men's side, while the women currently have six individuals, including the women's 4x100, ranked in the top-10 on the NCAA Descending Order List.
On the men's side, Mychal Dungey leads the TCU men in the rankings by posting the fourth-best 200 meters time last weekend, while the men's 4x100 consisting of Andon Mitchell, Mark Barnes, Dungey and Justyn Warner currently rank No. 3 in the nation. Also ranked for the Flyin' Frogs are Jordan Pitts who has the 12th-best time in the 110-meter hurdles and Tommy Killen who tossed the discus 179 feet, 8 inches to claim the 10th-best throw in the NCAA last weekend.
Jessica Young leads the TCU women with the fastest-time posted in the women's 100 meters in the NCAA, while senior Kishelle Paul currently has the seventh-best time in the 100-meter hurdles. In the field events, TCU has dominated the women's long jump nationally early on with Whitney Gipson and Neidra Covington having posted the nations third and fourth-best jumps overall, respectively, while sophomore Stormy Harrison currently has the No. 8 throw in the NCAA in the women's shot put. Finally, the women's 4x100 crossed the finish line last weekend with the fifth-best time in the NCAA.
TCU In The MWC
Entering this weekend's meet in Baton Rouge, TCU has the top mark posted in 15 different events in the conference, including both 4x100 relays. Overall, the Purple and White have eight of the top marks posted on the men's side and seven for the women.
Overall, the Flyin' Frogs have the top times in the 100, 200, 400, 800, 110m high hurdles, 4x100, long jump and discus on the men's side. The Purple and White women claim the top spot in the 100, 200, 100m high hurdles, 4x100, 4x400, long jump and shot put.
