
Rifle Competes at the Winter Airgun Competition

FORT WORTH, Texas - Freshman Sarah Scherer had an outstanding day one Friday at the Winter Airgun Competition held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Scherer set a national record with a perfect score of 400 in the 10m air rifle competition for a first place finish in the event.
As well as becoming a new national record holder, Scherer's score set a new Women's Junior record, the previous record was 399 set by April Shea on Feb. 2, 1996. Plus, she tied the Women's record that was established by Ann-Marie Pfiffner (May 19, 1993) and Jean Foster (March 12, 200). In the finals, Scherer shot a 102.8 to set a new overall record with a final tally of 502.8.
Kaitlin Pennell qualified for both the women's and the junior women's finals with a tally of 394 as did Sarah Beard, who fired a personal best 393 to qualify for her first finals in both the open and junior. Beard tied for eighth with fellow Horned Frog Erin Lorenzen, but claimed the spot in the finals with a score of 51.2 in the shoot-off.
Also competing in the match was Caitlin Morrissey, who fired a 389 and Christen Wilson, who finished with a 381.
The competition is slated to continue Saturday and Sunday.
